Maryland is set to tip off their 2024-25 season against Manhattan on Monday night. The Jaspers finished last year with a record of 7-23 (4-16 MAAC) in John Gallagher's first season as their head coach. They've only faced the Terrapins once, and pulled off an upset victory in the 2006 NIT's first round.

 

You can only watch this game with a subscription to the Big Ten Plus streaming service, which costs $89.99 for an annual subscription or $12.99 for a monthly subscription. In addition to this matchup, Maryland's games against Florida A&M on November 11th and Canisius on November 19th will be broadcast exclusively on this service.

I don't mind some of these early non-con games being on the premium channel, I mean it's annoying but whatever.  But putting the opening game on there is super weak.

This. It's basically a new team, new year, first game of the season.... put it on a channel most can watch without some BS subscription.

It's sad what the administration and powerbrokers have allowed to happen to the athletic programs over the years with their apathy. I know sports aren't the primary mission of a university, but it is easily the most visible component to the world outside of campus.

 

Maryland Basketball used to be must-see-TV for me. Now, I don't even care that the opening game of the season is on some streaming subscription service that I have no intention of subscribing to. They just let the program die on the vine.
