MASN: Some chatter about extending young stars and keeping Burnes

Some interesting stuff in there.
Elias is talking much more openly now. Saying new ownership has the wherewithal to allow them to run the franchise optimally.
Rubentein has talked with Boras. IM sure thats not uncommon for owners but still.
I personally didnt realize Westy was a Boras client. Was a guy I would consider locking up but Boras makes that much more unlikely. Same as Gunnar and Holliday

Dammit also didn't realize Westburg was a Boras guy.

That IS too bad.
This piece doesn't say much, but it's not supposed to, I guess.

Great, just what does "optimally" mean?
Maximize profits?
Maximize World Series chances?
Balance between the two?
This really means squat until we see how the FO means that and puts it in play.

...actually, I think it does.
I find Roch's use of the word "chatter" interesting. There's no "chatter"...but he chose to use that word, so that's intentional to sell a message that doesn't seem to exist.
I think the "optimal" comment is interesting. The language is different with the ownership change. True small market teams have to treat all expenses as a whole (ok, they really don't, but in the context of 'baseball' revenue), you can also choose to run each element of the Organization somewhat independently. Draft = thi$. IFA = thi$, Org staffing = this$ so you don't have to keep going with "more", but you do know where you want to be and you are allowed to get there. For the ML Budget, seems like everyone is waiting for some huge expenditure, but there's really no-where to go in this FA market. Rubenstein used the word "opportunity" the other day and that is the correct word. You can lean into your opportunities, when they are there, but I think that's a real challenge at this point, not because you aren't willing to invest, you just have to have something to invest in.
...I'll say this again (and again), if the Orioles have to bribe a guy to be here, he's the wrong guy. You have to want to be here. Contracts = commitment and it's what Elias needs to figure out.
....that leads into the Westburg note. That is wildly disappointing and without some other changes, may be a tipping point for this roster. I'd be concerned that is/was a recruiting effort which is very typical of the Boras stable. Boras clients focus isn't the Baseball Team, it's Team Boras. Baseball performance is the means to get to the priority, but that priority isn't the team Boras clients are only about the name on the back of the jersey, not the name on the front. My concern when Gunnar struggles (is a couple fold, but...) is the loudest voice in his ear is his agent explaining if he has another half season like the first half what his contract is going to be 4 years from now. I had some hope that Westburg could be a piece that you could build the Orioles culture around. Disappointing.
The other thing is the Elias quotes at the end. It's comical that he thinks he's operated with any sense of urgency and he recently said they were going to be reflective of the processes and he just said, he's "going to have to be careful to trust our well-studied and long-standing beliefs on the best way to run this team." Sounds like marketing of a status quo.

None, huh?
So I'm among the many that would love to see it happen....did we extend someone?
The "chatter" isn't message board desires or Roch talking to himself in the mirror. Those are thoughts or goals or discussion, but chatter seems like some type of Industry sourced reporting (not hope or wish) when you're trying to get ahead of the action.
Would love it if there was chatter. There's no chatter in what Roch wrote.
(am I missing some pending announcement? awesome.)
