The first game of the season is always hard to predict.   The one thing I believe is that the Ravens are not as strong a team as they were last year.  They've lost some playmakers on defense.  They lost a DC that did a great job with halftime adjustments.  They promoted from within, but also promoted a guy who has never had that position at any level.  He has some growing pains in front of him.  Their WR group is average.  They brought in Derrick Henry at an increased salary to boost a RB group that has finished in the top 5 every year of Lamar Jackson's NFL career.  Personally, I think it is over pay.  Henry will do fine.  But that position was not the area that needed improvement to get them over the top.

KC lost people too, but they have every year.  Last year looked like it would finally catch up with them.  But as long as you have Mahomes at QB, and Reid at coach, you have to be the team to beat.  Every other piece, maybe with the exception of Kelce, is interchangeable.

It wouldn't shock me for either team to win this game.  I think the revenge thing is over rated.  That was last year, two different teams.  KC lost their home opener last year, I don't see it happening again.  This year their opener carries more weight.  Last year they lost to a team they could not possibly see until the SB.  This year could end up determining home field in the playoffs.  I think the Ravens will hang, but KC pulls away in the 4th quarter.  KC wins by 10.

The OL has me nervous.  I could see it being really great as the season progresses or I can see it being a liability, especially early in the schedule.  I feel good about its potential but that doesn't mean much when you're actually playing the games.  I have a feeling that Lamar is going to be taking off more frequently this year and that's not necessarily a bad thing.

The team is healthy and KC's defense is pretty much the same. Run the ball, win the game.

They lost their top CB. That's pretty significant.

Not against Lamar Jackson. I love Lamar , but he's scaring no one with his arm unless something changed over the offseason.

He's a two time league MVP and was ranked #4 in QBR last year.

Also 4th in passer rating, which doesn’t include running like QBR does.

Obviously the cornerbacks just aren't afraid of him as they are giving up high percentages of completions for significant yardage and touchdowns.

15th in passing yards, 11h in TDs last season. I love Lamar, but his threat is his legs.

Those raw numbers don't account for differences in attempts. Teams that throw all the time are gonna rack up bigger totals.

He was 4th in yards per attempt. 6th in TD%. 5th (in the good way) in INT%.

Also 1st in MVP voting for the 2nd time in his career, cementing his place in the NFL HOF.

Doesn't it say something though that when Lamar throws too much, the team tends to lose?

He's not a bad thrower of the football, but he's not a great one either. There's a reason every team's defensive strategy against the Ravens is "make Lamar beat you with his arm." On top of that, in the playoffs he has literally had to try to win the game with his arm, and his success rate is terrible.

For it to be a rivalry, don't both sides have to win sometimes?

I'm expecting a sloppy game by both teams.  A couple of turnovers for both but a late FG by KC will win a tight game.
