Just because I was curious and thought it was an interesting point

2024 league-wide QS%: 37%
2014: 54%
2004: 47%
1994: 49%
1984: 52%
1974: 55%
1964: 54%

So it's definitely down, but feels wild that 2014 had the same hit rate as 1964 when I'm sure the innings per start was much higher in 1964

I feel like these numbers are probably generally all over the board QS % wise.

2014 just happened to be a down year for offenses. The O's had a team ERA of 3.43. League average was 3.81. In 2014 it's 4.06.

Hence my dislike for the way it's calculated. It's certainly a bit semantics but I don't equate quality with average. Quality says to me better than average.

Well, he scuffled a bunch, but it was 4-4 with two outs in the 4th inning when Jackson Holliday got duped into covering 2B when the roly-poly Rafael Devers faked a steal. Wong was at the plate and just inside-outed a grounder to the vacated vicinity where Holliday stood, and then the next batter hit a three run shot. 

 

TL;DR: it wasn't a good start, but the O's defense gave them an extra out.

It stinks MLB allows Fox to broadcast two nationally televised games simultaneously. The O's / Astros are on in like 5% of the national footprint. The Braves and Sillies are everywhere else.
