Tony is a stud. Of course it depends on the contract but I don't see how anyone wouldn't want to resign him.
He's really streaky, he has a .290 OBP, he can't really play defense, and he may cost $20M plus per year.

That ball hit the wall. Triple for Cowser.

His defense has been at least average this year by most public metrics and that matches what I see for the little that's worth. And his OBP is 309 after that homer, not 290. League average is 313 which I imagine is way below what most would've guessed. You can't really knock his OBP as being bad.

Streaky for sure. But he's ok in RF. And like I said it depends on the contract. He's really streaky, he has a .290 OBP, he can't really play defense, and he may cost $20M plus per year.

That pitch was about a foot outside of the k zone. Ouch.

Potato potato. He was asking for reasons nor to resign him.

And they’d still be paying for past performance. When your career year is a .309 OBP, a 5-10% downgrade sends you south of .300 in a hurry.

Windmill Tony works out this time! Taylor’s throw had a lot of arc to it. Maybe a bit more of a rope with a hop 20 feet in front of home plate would’ve had him.

309 wouldn't be his career year for OBP. 325 last season.
I’m talking in terms of OPS. You get what I’m saying though. I’d be OK with a three year deal, but they’d need to move O’Hearn ( and Mounty) to keep Tater as a DH/RF.
I wanna see less DH out of Rutschman and Kjerstad the everyday RF next year. Hopefully Mayo comes to ST with a first baseman’s mitt next season.

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note
"Now OPS sucks. Got it."
"Making his own olive brine is peak Mackus."
"I'm too hungover to watch a loss." - McNulty

The reasons should be based on fact, no?
Posted 20 August 2024 - 06:55 PM
I did not imply in any way that there no reasons not to resign him. But do think we should base those reasons on his actual performance and not a fictional, lesser version. Skepticism and pessimism can be warranted, but come on, use his actual numbers. He's not great at getting on base. Slightly above average isn't particularly good if you're a RF. And I didn't even mention his age or Mayo/Kjerstad.
I'd definitely give him a QO,and probably try to resign him, too, but it's a little disingenuous to pretend like there are no reasons to not want to.

Curious how Winker wasn’t tossed at the end of the previous inning. Flipping his bat and slamming his helmet down? That’s like a triple score swear word in Scrabble, no?

The Orioles have already decided not to pursue a contract, because if they had, he'd be signed.
Mets and Mariners will likely be 2 of his top suitors so this game is something of an audition for him.
Kjerstad will be in RF for the Orioles next year. Those are choices, that's fine and we'll evaluate them, like all choices, as we go.
