I feel like the inability to call off other players goes back to last year. It seems like there's a near collision in every game.
They absolutely have to tighten up the defense. The struggles with pitching and offense are to be expected over 162 game season but the defensive errors, miscues and inability to call off other players has to stop. It's laziness. Hyde needs to do something there.
Anyway, it was nice to see them win and score 8 runs without a HR. Still too crazy and close for my liking in the 9th. This team desperately needs a laugher now to relax themselves some.
Agree on the close calls in the outfield, both between outfielders and infielders going back. Seems to happen way more often to us than the opponents and there isn't much of a rational explanation for why it happens.
Don't think there are any other defensive issues. Gunnar obviously having a rough stretch, but that's not a coaching issue and he's obviously the SS the rest of the way so aside from "hoping he does better" there is nothing to be done. Playing Kjerstad frequently in LF is a weakness but one which is made as a conscious risk/reward decision with his bat.
I'm comfortable rolling with the position players we have, plus internal reinforcements. Maybe a RH bat off the bench could be added and Pache released since we don't need 3 guys who can play CF (especially not the third one who has no bat). We just need those guys to play better, both at the plate and in the field, than they have in recent weeks.
