Wouldn’t Crochet be more reasonably available than Skubal?

My opinion? No.  I think the CWS ask is going to be extremally high.  It was extremally high for Cease before they shit themselves in that deal with the Padres.  Crochet has more control, is LHed and is performing great at the moment versus Cease who was coming off a more challenging season.

My opinion would be that both Skubal and Crochet will have similar unreasonable asks....the difference for me would I have to attack CWS with prospects where I can leverage money (point of the other discussion, achieve other outcomes) with the Tigers.

But we have a pretty good idea that Crochet is available. As far as the ask, the Cease deal should be proof that you don’t always get what you ask for. The WS can hold onto Crochet and hope they get good within the next two years (seems far fetched) or use the leverage of the deadline to get the best deal at the absolute height of Crochet’s value. I’d say the Cease deal is exactly why they should and will trade Crochet. As far as the outrageous ask, that’s typical and then we’ll see who’s got the best offer on the table on July 31.

They’d probably be smart to trade him in the offseason but better the deadline than holding on into 2025.

It bears repeating that asking about a player doesn't mean he's available.

If you have pitching to trade you better not hold it too long. Especially controllable pitching. Im not saying to take the first decent offer that comes along but any arm issues and you could easily lose everything.

...whatever...but they are under no obligation to take the best deal.  Crochet (with all of the associated risks) is a guy that could have more value in the offseason because he'll have a full year of starting under his belt.  The CWS can manage to the end and he'll be more open (for innings) in 2025.

They aren't going to sort through their tweets on 30 July and accept a deal. If they want to move, they'll get involved with someone.  We have been led to believe publicly they've rejected the Dodgers offer.  Maybe that'll leak at some point and add perspective.

...At some level everyone is available.  The national punditry wants to lump everyone into a buyer and seller category then the sellers have to move everything not nailed down. These guys need something to write about or what are they going to do.  Everyone is stuck in this.  Bad teams have to enjoy getting a little bit of pub and the interest that comes amidst a season that doesn't generate any interest.

"Available" doesn't mean reasonably available.

Of course, they don’t have to trade him. See where I said just that?

“ The WS can hold onto Crochet and hope they get good within the next two years (seems far fetched) or use the leverage of the deadline to get the best deal at the absolute height of Crochet’s value”

They can hold him. They assume all the risk. No matter how great he is, the White Sox finish in last. Trade him while he’s one of the best pitchers in baseball? Hold him until the off season and hope like hell that he ends the year healthy? What would you do if you were the WS GM?

Well, I'm really dumb so I'd probably just put him on waivers hoping to generate interest before realizing I lost him for nothing.

Love the humility. I think you’re making progress in your self enlightenment.
