I looked at the Westburg injury on replay. I have a couple of observations. While I don't think Soto intended to injure Westburg, that was some bush shit.

First, you never run into a tag play and he was inches and a split second away from doing so. Secondly, if he was trying to distract Westburg he had plenty of time to go behind him. The collision was easily avoidable. I coached ten year olds who run bases better than Soto. I ran bases better as an eight year old in Little League than this clown does in the big leagues.

Lastly, I believe Suarez hitting Judge was in response to Westburg leaving the game. I do think Suarez was brushing him back. Kudos to the Orioles for protecting their own guys and I hope Judge will be OK.

Soto is a douche.

Soto's gaffe was about as bad as you'll ever see a major leaguer run the bases. That was borderline tee ball level stuff. And Soto looking dumbfounded and shocked was a joke. He literally just ran right in to Jordan despite having the play in front of him. Glad Suarez hit Judge in response.

With the pitching matchups heading into the series wouldve been fine with only getting 1. Avoiding a sweep is huge. Find a way to get 1 of the next 2.

Judge:  “I was definitely pissed.  There was a couple of balls up and in, but it's part of it. They like to throw in. So, part of it."

Verdugo: “At the end of the day, we don't take what happened lightly.  Obviously, [Judge], it's a big one for us, so none of us are too pleased about it.  At the same time, I don't believe it was intentional.  It was just one of those things where a couple of pitches got away from their guys.  It's one of those things after you hit somebody, if you can't go in, don't go in that way. It's just one of those things. We'll see what happens."

First, for Judge to say that they like to throw in is complete BS, and he knows it.  Anyone who watches the Orioles knows that they don’t pitch inside a lot - check Sunday’s game thread for evidence of that.  Second, FU Verdugo.  If any Orioles players get hit today his “we’ll see what happens” quote needs to be turned in to the league office.  Hyde should remind the umpires of that comment during his pre-game meeting with them.

Only two teams in have hit fewer batters than the Orioles; that should tell you they don’t “like to throw in.”  If they do like to “throw in,” then that refutes Verdugo’s BS “if you can’t go, don’t go in” assessment.  Cole likes to think of himself as an enforcer, so I fully expect him to “accidentally” hit at least one batter today - most likely in what he knows will be his final inning.

This was always inevitable. It will happen today or tomorrow. These are the two best teams in the division and the league. They are testing us. In every way. This is where we need the vets we have to step up. Or our manager. Have to show that we arent intimidated and wont back down. Dont like how we handled the Phillies series. Gunnar got thrown way up and in and Cowser was hit on purpose after the HR and there was no thought of  retaliation. As far as I know there was no talk about it either like you are hearing from the Yankees here. Cole likely throws at Gunnar tonight.. The one thing I still question about this team and it starts with the manager is if they have an edge and are willing to "go to war"

I love how the Yankees think that no one can do anything to them; only they can do stuff to others. Like the Soto play at third last night. What about that, a-holes? We're down a man too.

I mean they think they should have a say in what other teams do to their stadiums. What a bunch of entitled jaggoffs.

I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

Of course but thats the mentality they all get once they put on that uniform. They are the MFing Yankees and they want to play by different rules. You have to match that energy or the fight is lost. Well not lost, but man are you at a disadvantage. This is a big test for Hyde and this club.  You have to show you can match the BDE.

This is the part that worries me about this retaliation BS. What if Cole hits Gunnar in the face, breaks his jaw and puts him out for three months? What good does that do? This is why Earl never wanted his pitchers to throw at opposing hitters.

"Our players are better than their players, so we're going to lose in that exchange."

Earl would always use Frank Robinson and later Eddie Murray as examples. You can win the beanball war but wind up losing your megastar for an extended period of time. Games matter more than revenge.

This game didn't have anything close to the same feel as the first Phillies game.  This felt like COL-OAK in game 160.

Soto has always been a tool.  He's an entitled douche.  ARod was the same way.  Good luck to whoever pays him 500M.

Cole ain't hitting Gunnar because [Agency >>> Team].  He'll hit somebody.

Seems like a fair amount of insecurity around here.

Just win the Game.

When Sabathia broke Markakis's hand, causing him to miss the playoffs, I don't remember any Yankee fans "feeling bad for him".

What was it that Buck said? Something to the effect of, "Nobody cares about your problems, and most people are happy you have them".

I guess I believe in karma, because I don't wish bad things on people. But I'm not shedding any tears, if Judge misses some games.

I’ve gotten plenty mad in the heat of the moment at some Orioles pitchers over the years for not retaliating, but at the end of the day, Earl had the right approach.

I taught my 7-8 year old team to turn away from pitches that are too far inside. Suarez had no command yesterday and I doubt Akin was going after Gleyber Torres. Let McCann and O'Hearn be enforcers tonight.

I really doubt that Cole throws at anyone, much less Gunnar. If it happens, I predict that benches will clear. I just think Cole won't risk a suspension his first game back.

I really think Suarez was brushing Back Judge for two reasons, one he was getting hit hard, and two for the Soto play that ultimately forced Westburg out of the game.

I'm not a huge fan of hitting guys, however, if you think one of your players was intentionally injured or targeted, retaliation should be expected.

Like Dude said, win the game.

Gained some extra respect for Saurez last night for coming inside and having his guys back.

Didn't see that during the Phillies series.

I question whether Suarez was intentionally even going inside since his command was pretty bad all night.

He was pitching inside intentionally. It wasnt any form of retaliation though. So in the sense that hes not gonna let Judge just freely look out over the plate to get his A swing off I respect it.

This is my opinion too. The Yankees just want to have something to complain about. It's not like Suarez had pinpoint control, then hit Judge.

I don't know the stats but I doubt many pitchers today throw brush back pitches or try to own the inside part of the plate.  Most hitters stand so far from the plate that it's almost impossible to hit someone unless the pitcher is really wild or if it's intentional.  Chin music or knock down pitches just aren't a part of the game anymore.  Pitchers today already own the outside half of the plate so there's really no reason to get aggressive.

Judge's X-rays came back negative.  Just some swelling and soreness.
