Legit curious re: the throw to second that McCann airmailed to Mullins in CF on that SB in that past inning. The baserunner immediate gets up and collides with Mateo, and heads back to 2nd. The ump points to where Mateo was, and Kevin Brown was saying something about if he had run to third base and been thrown out, the ump would’ve called obstruction on Mateo.

 

Except that Mateo had just landed after leaping to make an attempt at McCann’s throw. Seems to me it’s on the runner to get around Mateo, and not through him. This isn’t 20 feet down the base path.

Even if its unitentional you can obstruct. That said, just because you obstruct doesnt mean the runner gets a free base if he tries.

The batting coaches and players need a reset. Too much swing and miss. Not enough walks. Not enough working ABs. We hit the ball hard when we make contact. But we got to find a way to 1. Make more contact and 2. Have better ABs.

Facts:

Cowser, as bad as he's been has still been better in May than Mullins.

Hays is RH and hitting better than Mullins.

Won't argue about Stowers but at this point I'd give him a look although I way preferred to give Kjerstad an extended look.
