A+: win the WS, don't care how many regular season wins it requires
B-: win a single ALCS game, something that hasn't happened since 1997, still not concerned over the regular season wins
F: miss the playoffs

Should surprise no one that postseason success or lack thereof doesn't define a "successful" season for me:
A+: 95+ wins
B-: 88-94 wins
F: < 81 wins. i almost said "miss the playoffs" here but I can see a situation where a combination of key injuries and just bad luck resutls in a down year. But they really would have no excuse to have a losing record this year.

Making the ALCS before losing is a B season to me.
Losing on the WC/divisional round is a C season.
Missing the playoffs is an F-.
I couldn't care less about their regular season record as long as they do well in the playoffs.

A+: 98 regular season wins and a WS appearance
B-: 88 regular season wins and a ALDS appearance
F: Any outcome in which they don't make the playoffs

Good thoughts except I'd just remove the number of wins from A+ and B-. Hell if they only win 82 games but win the WS then damn that's an A+. Conversely if they win 92 games and don't make the playoffs then that's an F.

The Orioles need to get swept out of the playoffs a few more times before they're equivalent to Lamar's level in that regard.
Until Lamar shows me he can play SS well in the playoffs I don’t care about the regular season.
There also isn't a player on the Orioles that has as much impact over his team's chance to win as Lamar does over the Ravens, and it's pretty difficult for an entire baseball team to be full of perennial choke artists. Where the Ravens are concerned, the team as a whole has done well in the playoffs except for one guy.

Im about to pass Ricker's "savage" title to Cerrano. Ricker is rarely around to defend it anymore.

It's not even really a burn. I'm not embarrassed of my feelings on Lamar. When you lose as much as he does in the biggest games, you've written your own narrative. Eventually you need to win games that matter.

Ok lets keep football talk out of these threads. I know Cerrano said it first with his sick burn but we dont need to be talking about Lamar in this section too.

I guess my answers are a little different since I'm not overly concerned about incremental win differences
1) A....WIN NOW high expectations (Playoff/Championship), compete, make Playoffs.
2) B....WIN NOW modest expectations (Playoffs), compete, make Playoffs
3) C/D....WIN NOW, regardless of expectations, fail to make Playoffs (disappointment)
F any season you don't try (make no Organizational effort) to make Playoffs (hopefully nobody ever argues for this again)

Miss playoffs: at this point this is a failure. It could be reasonably explained, like if there are massive injuries, but still would be incredibly disappointing after the upward arc we've been on.
Lose WC round or ALDS: I don't want to be spoiled, but after last year I would be pretty unhappy with these. Not an F, the playoffs are still hard no matter what, but not really a great success either. I guess like a C.
Lose ALCS: this would be a mix of satisfying and disappointing. Only made it there once in 25 years, but the closer you get the more you feel, oh what could have been. B
Lose/win WS: obviously losing would be disappointing, but either way the year is a very successful one. Couldn't complain much about the best result in 40 years, but there’s no guarantee you’ll be back, have to take advantage of opportunities. Again, what could have been feelings. A/A+
