This will certainly be an interesting player to watch, with Duquette deeming the 17 year old Sung-min as the best Amateur Korean.

According to KBO officials, MLB said the contract, reportedly worth US$550,000, will not be approved for the next 30 days as part of its sanctions on the Orioles. Kim will have to leave the team for the duration and train on his own.
"The contract between Kim and Baltimore is still valid," one official said. "But after receiving our complaint, MLB has decided not to approve it for 30 days in what we feel is a symbolic gesture. And fining the team is also a significant step."
Well I hear Linda Ronstadt is looking for a guitar player.

Then they didn't tender him a contract. Really ticks me off since he is banned from playing in Korea. This is a real black mark on the organization and I wish someone would make a big enough stink about it that the kid gets something.

Good Post...this was butchered from the jump. The kid gets banned, the Orioles get thrown out and nothing is gained. Not DD's finest hour.

This just confirms that the rest of the scouting community was right and our guy(s) were wrong. I would guess that Ray P. suggested this kid and after all of the publicity (everyone saying the kid was being way overpaid) someone Duquette or Angelos insisted on seeing this kid before committing to the dollars. It looks bad for sure but the Korean baseball association stepping in, probably saved the Orioles from a 500K mistake. Unfortunately, the kid winds up the loser through no fault of his own.
This. 100%
Someone needs to find a way to get rid of Ray Poitevint. The game has obviously passed the old man by. What is he 85 now? He has no business handling such an important job for a major league organization.
