Some 'Portal' Ideas

I know basketball has changed, but I feel like Wilcox and Baxter worked just fine.
Still think having two bigs like that can work.
That said, as I think Hallas said in the other thread, Reese did show some of that as a Freshman (and if he wants to sniff the NBA, he's going to have to show he can step out).
If I'm Reese, I'm much more excited about coming back to MD now, starting next to a legit 5. He would be at more of his natural position.
Any of the potential guard names would be good.
Ideally you would add two of them.

It would be Willard’s most impressive coaching job by far if he can figure out a two-big lineup in 2024-25. There are almost no comparisons across the country in the last decade, so it would be something that hasn’t been done in many years.I don't think Reese needs to be a stretch 4 for it to work.

If you’re going to do that, you probably need at least two guys shooting close to 40% from three. Otherwise teams are going to pack the paint (just like they’re doing this year) and getting to the rim will be extremely difficult.
Queen has the ability to run the floor and distribute, which would help. You can run your offense through him a good bit, not dissimilar to how the Nuggets use Jokic (obviously not making that player comparison, just talking schematics offensively).

Bruno Fernando and Stix?
If you go with some kind of 2-3 zone and sit back in the paint, Reese can hit from the elbow all day. especially if the front 2 defenders are guards.
Reese as a freshman could knock down a 3. Maybe he can remember how with Queen on board over the summer.

Fernando and Smith both had outside shots that defenses had to at least respect. Neither Reese or Queen have that.Bruno Fernando and Stix?

Smith I'll give you could step outside and hit an occasional 3.

Alright, maybe not Fernando as much as I remember. 3/10 from three as a sophomore. Was remembering a game against Indiana where he hit multiple in one game.Fernando had an outside shot teams had go respect? He was a good FT shooter for a big man.
Smith I'll give you could step outside and hit an occasional 3.
Even so, Reese and Queen likely won’t attempt a single three between them next year. Just not sure that’ll work, assume they’ll split time at the 5 most of the time.

Fernando attempted 13 outside the arc in his entire college career. Stix was a 27% shooter his first year. Neither was a serious threat outside when they were playing together. Stix developed a shot in his 2nd year, after Fernando left.
Meanwhile Reese was a 30% beyond the arc on 23 attempts as a freshman. If he can get his shot back then it could work.

I can't imagine Reese being back, and them splitting time. They'll both have to be on the floor as much as possible.
Do think what you said earlier about the shooters is the right point. You have to have multiple guys who can knock down shots.
Some of the guys you mentioned as possibilities look like Curry with their shooting numbers compared to what we've seen this year.

If Queen and Reese are on the roster together -they won't be splitting time. They'll be spending a lot of time on the floor together.
Yeah, Queen is a top 15 guy who had his pick of where to go, he's not coming here to play 10-15 minutes a game his first year. Stix was in that area and played 26 per game his first year. And Reese isn't coming back for his last year to drop significantly down from his current 32 MPG. Maybe it's simply best if Reese doesn't come back, but if he does I assume they will both be playing most of the time.

I wouldn't consider myself a huge fan of Reese's game, but there's no scenario where MD is better off if he leaves imo.
If you have those two (Reese and Queen at the 4, and 5)... and the Freshman take a leap in year 2.... and you add two impactful portal guards... you've got a chance to have a fun year next year.
You lose Reese... the Freshman don't significantly improve, and you don't add real portal talent.... yikes.

I'm with everyone uniting against Zack in that there is zero chance Reese and Queen split time if they're both on the roster.
Not expecting Reese back, but if he is then the Terps will be running a twin towers offense, whatever that may be.

Well, you can likely say goodbye to Rodney Rice.
Twitter rumors are that Mike Jones is going to be the new Old Dominion head coach.
