Already a top-10 trade in team history? Too early for top-5.
He's been great. However, is what the players the O's traded do irrelevant?

Not irrelevant, but if you get what you pay for I'm not salty about guys getting away.

I think the fairest way to assess it longterm is what Ortiz does compared to what Holliday does for the next 5-6 years. If it turns out Ortiz is a better major leaguer than Holliday then yeah that makes the trade a bit awkward but if Holliday is better than Ortiz then they moved someone who wouldn't have ever regularly started as an Oriole

This is not totally fair, but the trade will also be measured in part based on the team success this season considering it was a win now move for a player with only one year left on his contract.

I think trades like Burnes trade should always favor the seller. You do not get Corbin Burnes without putting young quality players in the deal. If the young players pan out, the selling team usually wins the trade.
That said the Orioles got a terrific pitcher in Burnes. Long term the Brewers probably win, but despite the complaining in the game threads Burnes IMO is more than advertised.

2 or fewer runs allowed in 10 of 14 starts (only 3 runs allowed in each of the other 4)
6 or more IP in 11 of 14 starts (5.0, 5.0, and 5.2 IP in the other 3).
3rd in MLB in IP
7th in MLB in ERA

First Oriole pitcher with an ERA+ above 160 as a starter since Moose

And it only took 30 years.
Good news! I saw a dog today.
