Where's his wife? Back home? They just had twins this summer.

Maybe we’ll be able to afford to extend him after all.

Corbin Rogers.

He can go. F this guy. He’s a hired gun. A mercenary. He will leave us as soon as he possibly can for the highest bidder. And he turns into a dumpster fire when we needed him most.

He'll probably make a dominant return to ace form for whoever signs him this offseason.

He'll figure it out. He's motivated financially to do just that.

The bigger question is WTF happened to the bats in the lineup.

Strangest thing is that in each of his last two starts, Burnes was knocked out of the game by four-run innings that came with two outs. He just hasn't been able to bear down and get that final out of the inning. Might have something to do with that steeply declining strikeout rate.

I want to know more about him gifting 2B to Altuve early in the game. That was stupid. Why? Cuz he didn’t bait him into a bigger lead. He just threw over to the bag which awarded Altuve 2B. Is that the response to having a slow delivery to the plate? To what end?

Right. When asked about the declining strikeout numbers Mr. Burnes said the important thing is that he can get one when he needs one. That is clearly not the case.

He's been bad or a month. Tonite all I'm seeing is soft stuff lo and outside. Where's the power? Does he have arm trouble or is he trying to save his arm till that big contract is safely signed?

Not sure where I heard it, but it was mentioned that the movement on his cutter is down, which might explain why it's getting hit more this year than years past. I've also read that the Orioles, with their pitchers dropping like flies, are asking Burnes to try and pitch to contact a bit more in order to help him maintain his innings-per-start rate at just above six. He's averaging 3.78 pitches per plate appearances this sesaon, as opposed to 3.92 last year and 4.09 in 2022.

The Orioles can't afford to lose Burnes, even during this bad stretch, so maybe pitching to contact acts as a bit of self-preservation for both he and the team.

They can afford to lose him if this is who he is going to be.

He’s probably costing himself millions with his last 5 starts. But he won’t be close to worth the contract he’ll get. Hardly any SPs ever are.
I never had friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Jesus, does anyone?

He allowed 28 runs in August, the most an O's pitcher has allowed in a month since both Spencer Watkins and Matt Harvey in 2021.

Yikes those are 2 names we'd rather forget. That's some rare air up (down?) there. 😂

I just need to see one good start and I'll buy back in but man this is really frustrating and disappointing.

Didn't see the game only the box score, but despite 6 runs allowed doesn't look quite as bleak as the two previous outings. Only 5 hits and 0 walks. Grasping for some positive signs. Still the issue with giving up big hits when a big out could've gotten him out of an inning. Having trouble finding that 3rd out when he needs it.

His greatness this year was in his consistency. He’s never really flashed “dominant” this year except in maybe his very first start against the Angels. He probably bounces back in September but I never was counting on him as a 75% chance kind of guy in the playoffs. The strikeout rate drop and lack of dominant outings is a real concern regarding his next contract.

Here's what's crazy about this. If it wasn't for all of our injuries we'd be talking about would we really start him in October? Unless September really turns around compared to August you'd have to say heck no.

Agree the consistency was the most amazing part about his season, but he was dominant frequently until August.  You don't need lots of Ks to be dominant, IMO.  9 starts with 1 run allowed over 6 or more innings through July.  Oddly, never had a start with 0 runs allowed during that time, but he also only had a single start allowing more than 3 (when he allowed 4).

Hard to comprehend how different he's been in August.
