If you want to argue the value of 2 guys in the top 50-60 prospects, ok, but I don't think that's a deal the Rays care about.
I still have Glasnow to the Dodgers. The Dodgers need some impact at the top of the rotation, he's a SoCal kid and they don't care about the money. Everyone has them signing Ohtani and if that happens, prospects like Rushing and Cartaya plus a non-Bobby Miller younger SP for Glasnow and Margot would seem right in terms of fit and need.
Not that the Orioles would even be interested in the 25M pitcher, in an inter-division trade, for a guy with some injury history, but the deal would be more like Basallo and Parada (Mets 3rd team in)....so something like....Basallo, Santander, Urias and Seth Johnson for Glasnow (ignoring the 3 real reasons Glasnow isn't a consideration).
So Glasnow gets traded to the Dodgers, but no idea what the Rays are doing.
Even if the Rays are forced into more of a salary dump type move, how are they not getting more than those 2 guys?
Jonny Deluca = a RHed Kyle Stowers.
Pepiot may be good (still TBD), but he's one of 4 or 5 RHed pitching prospects for LAD.
Given the OF needs around MLB, Margot is (should be) more than nothing/negative.
Given the desperation for starting pitching around MLB...nobody was offering them more than that? Braves, Phillies, Mets, Cubs, Reds, Cards, DBacks, Padres? That's just teams in the NL....nobody wanted him more than "Pepiot&Deluca"?!?!?
Maybe the Rays familiarity with Friedman played some role in this (that goes to the notion of 'relationships') but that seems shocking little for a guy that has front of the rotation stuff AND they let him negotiate an extension as part of the deal....so no extension equals less?
If no-one was willing to give up more than that for Glasnow, then the Orioles should EASILY get Burnes. Burnes isn't considering an extension.
