If you want to argue the value of 2 guys in the top 50-60 prospects, ok, but I don't think that's a deal the Rays care about.

I still have Glasnow to the Dodgers.  The Dodgers need some impact at the top of the rotation, he's a SoCal kid and they don't care about the money.  Everyone has them signing Ohtani and if that happens, prospects like Rushing and Cartaya plus a non-Bobby Miller younger SP for Glasnow and Margot would seem right in terms of fit and need.

Not that the Orioles would even be interested in the 25M pitcher, in an inter-division trade, for a guy with some injury history, but the deal would be more like Basallo and Parada (Mets 3rd team in)....so something like....Basallo, Santander, Urias and Seth Johnson for Glasnow (ignoring the 3 real reasons Glasnow isn't a consideration).

So Glasnow gets traded to the Dodgers, but no idea what the Rays are doing.

Even if the Rays are forced into more of a salary dump type move, how are they not getting more than those 2 guys?

Jonny Deluca = a RHed Kyle Stowers.

Pepiot may be good (still TBD), but he's one of 4 or 5 RHed pitching prospects for LAD.

Given the OF needs around MLB, Margot is (should be) more than nothing/negative.

Given the desperation for starting pitching around MLB...nobody was offering them more than that? Braves, Phillies, Mets, Cubs, Reds, Cards, DBacks, Padres?  That's just teams in the NL....nobody wanted him more than "Pepiot&Deluca"?!?!?

Maybe the Rays familiarity with Friedman played some role in this (that goes to the notion of 'relationships') but that seems shocking little for a guy that has front of the rotation stuff AND they let him negotiate an extension as part of the deal....so no extension equals less?

If no-one was willing to give up more than that for Glasnow, then the Orioles should EASILY get Burnes.  Burnes isn't considering an extension.

No the O's should have easily gotten Glasnow....yeah I know the old don't trade within a division nonsense

If I'm the Rays there's no way I'm giving the O's Glasnow unless I can severely hurt their system, and if this is the value that's not happening. It's probably like Stowers or Haskin + Wells or Povich? The O's would also pay less because unfortunately there is no way they are extending Glasnow at that cost.

The Orioles don't get Glasnow because of other things.  The cost thing is artificial, but we are going to have to live with it for at least this year. The Rays don't likely want to see Glasnow in Baltimore in 2024 and they'd rather he play in the NL for the next 5 years so the Dodgers make a lot of sense for several reasons.  The Orioles (also artificial) are typically scared by injury risk.

It's just crazy it didn't cost them much.  There's something else going on there.  Maybe we'll eventually understand it or maybe we won't, but the surface of the deal makes little sense in terms of the return.

The Dodgers just took all opportunity away from Daulton Rushing and he'd be a good fir for the Rays needs....

So a deal like Rushing, Pepiot and Pages for Glasnow (WITH an extension) and Margot would have felt light, but at least reasonable.

Even if the Rays think they know something unique about Deluca, he's still not a significant piece.

Pepiot has 1 year of service.  Glasnow signed for 4 more years putting his control (5 years) at the same level as Pepiot (5 years).  The costs are different, but the Dodgers don't care about the costs.

fwiw, that's the same thing I said re Mountcastle.  Brewers can want Mayo, but they can take Mountcastle and sign him and get the same 6 years as Mayo and ask for more in the package for staying off Mayo.

He has an option and we have 4 open spots on our 40 man. Was probably about to be DFA’d and we decided to give up someone even I have never heard of to get him.

I'm not sure my heart can stand the excitement over this monumental move.

A Norfolk shuttle type of guy. Then again, Cano's numbers stunk in Minnesota so maybe there's something to be fixed here.

His numbers as a starter were not great, so they moved him to the bullpen where he….got even worse. Guess the plan is probably to DFA and hope he passes through waivers.
