He walked in the go ahead run, then walked another guy, so no.
Webb's doing what he can to clean up this mess; he hasn't exactly had a wealth of support.

After someone else had loaded the bases. I'll grant you the latter, but you can only stamp out so many brush fires.

True, but a better rightfielder might have been able to call him off. Didn't look like Hicks was going full speed there.
That's sorta what I'm saying. Once upon a time Hicks was a much better outfielder. And while we're on the subject, Frazier probably ranges that far out because Hicks is in RF.
I mean, Hicks is a faster runner than Santander, but I can't imagine Anthony jog-running towards that ball. Probably would've been a sliding catch, but he would've been the one to play the ball.

We need to get Cole Irvin back up here.

OK hit a three run shot and all is forgiven.

That did not look like a strike.

Up to you, Gunnar.
Damn! Was hoping to get Adley up one more time. Oh, well, sometimes the lesser team wins. Lick 'em tomorrow.

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note
"Now OPS sucks. Got it."
"Making his own olive brine is peak Mackus."
"I'm too hungover to watch a loss." - McNulty

I would've used Cano to start the 8th inning. If he mows them down in 10 or so pitches, *and* the O's take the lead in the top of the 9th, you let him finish the game. Otherwise, you roll the dice with the best of what you've got in the 9th.
The O's aren't one of those teams to use their best RP in that first high leverage situation, though.

How long until Irvin can come back?

This game sucked.
Grayson grinded when he didn't have it, which is good to see. Adley starting to heat up, also good. And another late-inning comeback. But the two straight games without any offense is frustrating and yet another bullpen implosion is really making it hard to remain super confident about the postseason. It'd be one thing if some of the relievers just weren't very good on given nights, kind of like Grayson last night, but managed to grind and have just moderate results. But two straight games a relief pitcher has come in and from the very first pitch you know you're just hoping to get through 3 batters so you can get them out of the game. Complete zeroes from Fuji and Perez recently have turned close games into losses.
Go win the next one and get back on track.

Perez had been pretty reliable lately, 0 ER in 17.2 innings before last night going back to July, 17 K to 2 BB in that time. Not that all those outings were great, and a few inherited runners scored in that time, but still pretty good. But yeah, it seems like every day you're just holding your breath hoping for someone to just not melt down completely and it feels like this is going to be our downfall. If we lose a postseason series it's gonna be because the bullpen blew at least 2 games. The annoying part is this wasn't unforeseeable on July 31.

Exactly.
This season has been magical but the failure to improve it at deadline is going to come back to haunt us.

The pen is exhausted. Perez has been terrific since July but he was on fumes last night. You could tell Hyde did not want to go to him last night, but he really had no choice.
I told my son, it would have been better had we lost 2-0
