Civale was pitching better for the Cleveland than he has for the Rays but that probably doesn't mean much at this point.  All you can hope for is that the Orioles aren't beginning one of those offensive wasteland periods because it couldn't come at a worse time.  We shall see.

The Orioles called up outfielder/first baseman Heston Kjerstad, the No. 2 pick in the 2020 draft. They optioned Ryan McKenna and put Terrin Vavra on the 60-day IL to create roster space; nothing yet on Ryan Mountcastle. Bryan Baker also up, with Nick Vespi optioned a fifth time.

Wow that’s cold towards McKenna. Just had him do the dugout in game interview last night and he was so happy. Guess there’s some hope Mounty doesn’t go to IL?

With Hicks and Mullins both active, we don't need McKenna.  I don't love Hicks in CF, but he can fill in here and there if Mullins needs a few innings of coverage.  Which he won't, its crunch time.

McKenna is a good team guy, but yeah, with Mullins, Hays, Santander, Hicks all healthy there's only so much PT for the 5th OF/ defensive replacement.

They could also use Frazier and Mateo in the OF if really in a bad spot.

Uh, Kjestad is an OFer too so any discussion about not needing a 5th OFer applies to him just as much as McKenna. Now Heston bats lefty and maybe that's the driver. But man if I had to put a guy on for defense I sure would look at McKenna first.

I think they are trying to buy time for Mountcastle.  I have a hunch McKenna is not leaving the locker room.  If Mounty can not go tomorrow, I think McKenna is right back.
