Who really knows. Angelos is poison but regardless of that and what could potentially happen we just dont know. Blue Jays have been solid the last few tears but theyve stalled or not gotten better. These White Sox still have a lot of the same guys from 90 win teams. Not overly old. They have regressed. Padres a bit more of a vet group but relatively young and have never really put it together. We will see. On paper the talent will be there no doubt.

There is truth there.

Take advantage of the opportunity in front of you because you never know.

Still, despite the record, I do think future Os teams will be be a bit stronger overall.

Another topic...again 97 and 23...
Make one team out of those two rosters.
How many 23 guys are on that combined team?

Off top of my head, from the '97 team I'd add to the '23 team: Raffy at 1B, Alomar at 2B, Eric Davis off the bench, maybe Jeffrey Hammonds in RF. Gimme the entire rotation (Key, Moose, Erickson, Kaminiecki, and gimme all the lefties out of the pen.

Not sure where you play Cal [ducks under table].

Anderson is 100% in the starting lineup. Surhoff would be my 3b or RF. and Gunnar at SS. Raffy, Alomar, Rutsch, Ced, Brady, Santander at DH

So basically more 1997 guys than 2023 guys

I think I have 11 '97 players and I guess 14 players from the '23 squad.

That would be one deep bench.

Clearly I am suffering from a massive recency bias though.

Raffy, Alomar, Ripken, Surhoff, Brady gives the 97 team the position edge.

Hoiles and Adley are closer than one might think.
Gunnar gets the nod over Bordick, Santander over Hammonds, and the DH spot goes to the 23 squad.

Moose, Key and Erickson probably lean the rotation to 97.

Randall K Myers and Felix are close. The rest of the pen probably goes to 23.

DH was Berroa. He was a horrible fielder, but could hit.

97 pen also had Rhodes, Benitez, Orosco.

Dont think I take Santander over Hammonds. More power but Hammonds was better on the base paths and much better defender.

Pretty close overall. Tough choice.

Come on guys. Adley 100% over 97 Hoiles. Hoiles was splitting time wuth Webster by 97. He was horrible defensively. Santander easily over Hammonds if its either or. Santander is in the starting lineup. Hammonds may make it off the bench. Ill do all 25 when I get a chance

Yeah, I find a way to keep Santander's bat on the bench, but I'd definitely prefer Hammonds in RF.

Also need to take into account the game is much different now. Overall batting average in 1997 was 20 points higher than it is now. Defense was more important. So I gotta stick with Hammonds.

Which really then begs the question. Are you taking the 97 guys and making them play in 2023 or the 2023 guys and making them play in 97? Might change the answers a bit?

I was a Hammonds fan, but Santander is better.

I think that's an interesting question.

It's the fairest way to look at it IMO

I'd swap Hays with Eric Davis.

Yeah, pretty easy to build a good squad out of two 95+ win rosters :)

Im not sure if Gunnar is at 3b with Bordick at SS or Gunnar at SS and Ripken at 3b. The other option is Surhoff at 3b and someone else in RF or DH. Baines or Davis are options at DH if we move Anthony to RF and bring BJ in. But 8 of these 9 are def starters
