Maryland will kick off their 2023 season at home against Towson on Saturday afternoon. This will be Pete Shinnick's first game at the helm of the Tigers after they fired longtime head coach Rob Ambrose following the 2022 season. He's a Baltimore native and the son of former Baltimore Colts linebacker Don Shinnick. They'll be featuring a new quarterback, as former Maryland signal-caller Tyrrell Pigrome graduated from the program last year. It'll be an uphill battle for them, as they'll also be replacing 3 starting offensive linemen and 2 starting defensive linemen.

 

While the official betting line has yet to be announced, ESPN gives Maryland a 94.0% chance to win this game.

I didn't make the connection with Pete and Don Shinnick. If he is as tough as his Dad was he will have Towson playing physical.

QB Taulia Tagovailoa mentioned today that new offensive coordinator Josh Gattis has brought an "air raid" element to Maryland's offense. We may not see it the first few weeks against some inferior opponents, but expect them to throw the ball even more this season than they've done in the past.
