Wouldn't surprise me if Bazardo goes down tomorrow plus one more to make room for Rodriquez and a fresh bullpen arm.

And it wouldn't surprise me if that was the thinking behind putting him in to hold a five run lead in the ninth.

Theyve done too good of a job in the FO giving him talent. Its nearly impossible for him to screw up a playoff run this year and in future years too. The playoffs are a different beast

I don't think they need to send anyone else from the BP down. The guys that have had the most use since the break are the ones who aren't going anywhere. Plus you get to move Irvin in there now too.

Would think Mullins' status could determine what happens too. If he needs 2-3 more days, could see them sending Vespi down for McKenna.

The only thing I might have done differently was walk Luis Arraez intentionally even though that would have put the go-ahead run on base. Soler was out of the game by then and I believe the next hitter due up would have been Nick Forte, he of the .207 BA. But I guess Hyde figured to go with the left-on-left matchup.

1. Bazardo does not belong on this team. He proved it today. Low a pressure situation as you'd ever want and he choked it off.

 

2. No way I pitch to Arreaz there. I don't care that is was a lefty- lefty matchup. He smoked it and we lucked out, well ok great positioning by Hays, otherwise its a tie ball game.

 

3. I would have preferred to leave Baker in for the simple reason that you don't know what comes tomorrow. Yes is nice to have him available but since he was on so few pitches he may well have been able to finish it and still be available tomorrow. But I guess we learned something by pulling him. Go up to #1 above. if he's not gone tomorrow then I SMDH.

 

4. Cowser - ok so he has struggled at each new level. I get understand that. Did he struggle this bad and what about defensively? He does not look good in the OF.

I think it was always the plan to send Bazardo down after the game, so I can support the decision to keep Baker available for tomorrow and let the guy try to get 3 outs with a 5-run lead. He ended up proving that sending him down is the obvious choice. Sucks they had to send Coulombe out to clean up the mess, and he wasn't all that great either, but you obviously don't want to risk losing a game in the 9th up 5-0.

Despite their record, the Orioles don't play a lot of lopsided (in their favor) games. I'm sure Hyde was hoping he wouldn't have to do any more thinking in the top of the ninth today, but subsequent events dictated otherwise. Plus, with no off days scheduled this week, he saw today as a chance to spread out the late innings so as not to kill the top guys in the pen.

I mean we have to use our guys. You can’t just keep a bullpen arm glued to the bench. Cano and Felix were unavailable (not that you’d use them up 5-0 anyway) but a 5-0 lead in the 9th is the perfect time to use your bottom rung arms. If he stinks that bad and can’t get the job done he shouldn’t be on the team (and maybe he goes for Rodriguez) but if you aren’t going to use him with a big lead when are you going to use him?

Even with Judge they are probably the worst team in the division. Now, they are still positioned to make some deadline moves and we know they will.
