This should have happened 3 or 4 days ago. We are in a pennant race, let's not play a man down.

I think the move is the right one. Hopefully Hicks provides some big hits. He is the veteran and is probably the best man to spell Cedric and the other outfielders.

Hicks headed to the Angels. He'll forever be appreciated for what he did when Cedric got hurt last season and beyond.
Seemed like a good dude too.
Hope he succeeds there.

"one-year deal worth the league minimum of $740,000."
He might be their starter, they'll be lucky if he plays 1/2 a season.

He could play 162 or 1.62 games for the Angels next season and it won't make any difference. They're not going anywhere.

I'd have been OK with Hicks back in the 4th OF role, but only so many roster spots available. Already a bit of a log jam between OF/DH with Mullins, Santander, Hays, Cowser, Kjerstad.
Don't forget McKenna! Zero options left. I expect him to clear waivers though, if needed, and if not oh well.

Hopefully Cowser is way better defensively than he showed last year, which would make McKenna expendable.

Hicks is still getting paid by the Yankees. Through 2025 plus a buyout of 2026 option. Any new teams he signs with will only pay him the minimum, with the Yankees owing him the remainder of his deal.
Must be nice to be a team with a bottomless pit of money

Lol. I'm not a McKenna hater like most. I don't want him starting, but for minimum salary he's fine on the bench. If it were between Hicks at minimum and McKenna at minimum - it's Hicks all day.
