Kyle Muller vs Grayson Rodriguez

You don't want to put too much into 1 start but this is important for Rodriguez.  The A's lineup is one of the worst MLB lineups I've seen, including some of ours from a few years back.  Honestly I think I'd take our Norfolk lineup over these guys.  He needs to be able to handle a team like this.

McCann was horrendous v LHP last year but been between good and amazing most of the rest of his career.  775 OPS for his career.

Not sure about sticking with 3 catchers. Maybe they want to be sure McCann is right before making a change.

If the plan is to use him at DH against LH pitching, he better be good enough to waste a roster space on Bemboom.

If there was any concern about McCann's oblique, he could've stayed on rehab assignment a bit longer.

 

I guess we're looking at the 26th spot as a throwaway at this point because carrying 3 catchers seems absurd.

 

I could be overreacting though. Is there a strategy that I'm missing here?

I'd rather let Adley get some extra rest at DH when they want to go this direction due to a lefty starter.

Or start Stowers.

And I am with MWEB   if you are going to have both Ruts and McCann in the lineup then have Ruts DH.

Stowers is a lefty though. That matters more than what’s actually happened in the minors.

When McCann signed, he said the O's told him he'd play in about 80 games.  I guess this is how.

I think its the silly "oh no we might lose the DH late in a game if Adley has to go in" fear.  Especially this week with so many lefties that they may wanna start McCann more than usual and get Rutschman to DH.  If it remains the configuration past this series I'll get upset about it, for now its just an eyeroll.

I think you are right.  I know Adley asked to catch GRod last Wednesday, so maybe it is going to become a consistent thing.
