In the major-league phase of the Rule 5 Draft, the Baltimore Orioles selected Andrew Politi, a right-handed pitcher out of the Boston Red Sox system. With this pick, the Orioles chose a reliever coming off of a strong season who could find a role in their bullpen.

“What you do speaks so loudly that I cannot hear what you say” - someone profound, as well as Buck Showalter at his Orioles welcome presser.

Elias’ words today:
-we want to make the playoffs
-we are talking to some guys who would be in our top 9 or however you want to put it
-we have multi-year offers out to pitchers

Elias actions today:
-drafted an arm from the rule 5

What an effing joke.

If I can, it's the Rule 5 draft.

You'll read into every little thing he says if it pisses you off and you can drive a narrative

I hope the kid is good.  You need reliable arms out there, but he is going to lack options and you already have a fair amount of that.  Some of the guys with options aren't getting sent down.  You can't put everyone in the bullpen.

It was the guy they were targeting going into it so let’s see what they can make of him. There’s nothing to lose by taking someone in the rule 5 and it doesn’t detract from everything else the team plans on doing.

I have NO problems with rule 5 drafts.

Im not holding much hold either, if they were any good, they would be protected, Boston's farm system isnt that loaded, that they leave valuable pieces available.

Red Sox had to make room for Japanese star Masataka Yoshida.  So, everyone wins.  Red Sox get Yoshida. O's get Politi.

While your criticism may be fair, you probably aren't the best person to point it out, given that you do the exact same thing. You just choose to go the route of sunshine and lollipops.

Good news! I saw a dog today.

I'm interpreting what he says through the lens of what he actually does. Which, so far is lose a ton of games so he can pick at the top of the draft, and that talent evaluation and player development stuff is great, I respect it. He has zero interest in going for it. None whatsoever. Until he proves otherwise, that's where I'm at.

Elias is a better talent evaluator than Duquette IMO.

But when it comes to actually trying to get over the hurdle and win I think they are the same guys. Full of shit.

I have no problem with trying some things and if they don't work out you lose. But I have a major problem with not trying.

Dan was allowed to spend money.

Is Elias allowed?

I have a hard time thinking that Elias isn't allowed to spend at least a good portion of what DD got to.

I do as well, and Elias would know what his powers would be and would not be, before coming to B-More, as he was a new girl with curls on the block.

But, he has been extremely thrifty in his spending.
