Did he really not have his own page?

He is a soon-to-be 33-yr-old catcher with 203 PAs and an OPS under .500.....obviously they needed to add HIM to the 40-man.

They can dump him off the 40. It's literally nothing.  They will have a #2 catcher next year, regardless of the name....but why would your off-season start with adding BemBoom back to the 40?

Seems like a decent enough guy so <<thumbs up>>.

Joke. Hopefully there is some hidden reason we don't see.

Why does this matter in any way?

He’s good at framing and they didn’t want to lose him as a minor league free agent. I’m sure they will still look at better options.

Alley should be DH'd much more often than a regular catcher, so having a decent back up who you expect to start 3+ times a week should be a priority.

In 2022, Adley was on the team for 122 games.  He started 84 at catcher and 23 at DH.  Prorate that to 162 and its 112 GS at catcher and 31 at DH with 18 games off.  I think that's a good target pace for 2023.

That doesn't really explain why you'd use a 40-man position on him.  Sign him to a MiL contract.  Put too much money on a split contract or whatever to make him unattractive to others.  If you think he adds value to the minors working with pitchers, great.

It's nothing, but why on earth add him to the 40. (that's rhetorical)

40 man spots are irrelevant until the roster is full. They'll dump him later if they need to.

If they lose someone interesting due to 40-man space, that'll be the time to complain about Benboom. It simply doesn't matter right now.

Yeah it’s literally meaningless at this point. Just like it was meaningless that they had zero catchers on the roster last October. You might as well use your spots so you don’t lose a guy for nothing, but I’ll be surprised if he’s still on at rule 5 time.

Did they decrease the waiver period? That was fast.
