Better than Irvin now?

 

You can look at McDermott's K rate, and hits per ip at Norfolk and obviously see there is legitimate arm talent. 

 

But (and obviously era isn't the end all be all), his era in 19 AAA starts this year is 3.96.  
Irvin's ML era this year is 4.62. 

 

Povich had a 3.39 AAA era in 12 starts year... he's at 6.27 so far in 7 ML starts. 

Irvin has been rough since the calendar turned to June, so maybe it's a wash.
Certainly know McDermott has better stuff. 

 

But my guess is it's doubtful that McDermott is even as good as Irvin right now.

I am with you Chris. The sad part is that we are even having this discussion. I don't want any of Suarez, Irvin, McDermott, or Povich starting but right now we gotta use 2 of them.

Actually we gotta use 3 of them right now since they demoted Povich before the break and needed his spot before his 15 days were up and then we have the DH coming up. Forced themselves into needing 6 pitchers.

I was hoping they'd have acquired an external SP for the start Saturday night, but alas. Maybe we'll get someone in time for Monday.
