Can you imagine being in your work place and having Brooks Robinson and Eddie Murray walk in, sit down and talk to you? My first thought was “how many of those players had no clue of who they were?” I know you’re not supposed to idolize athletes, but I absolutely idolized both of them, and still do to this day. I have a picture of the last time I met Brooks. He was doing a private autograph session and I mentioned the name of my wife’s uncle. He immediately asked “how is old Tom?” We talked for almost 10 minutes - I was in heaven. I felt bad for the people behind me, but I wasn’t about to tell Brooks that he had to stop talking.

As for the game, I keep waiting for the real Austin Voth to show up.

Brooks is like everyone's uncle in Baltimore. What a great story.

Maybe this is the real Austin Voth. Pretty crazy. Love the post.

Thanks, the thought crossed my mind that maybe Voth is the Orioles’ version of Charlie Morton.  Looking at his numbers on Fangraphs, there really isn’t of difference between his peripheral stats between the two team this year.  He has had more success with his fastball and his curve (which he’s throwing more of).  He’s also throwing a change up and is having good success with it - it doesn’t appear he was throwing that pitch in Washington this year,  He is getting a good bit more swings and misses with the Orioles.

Adley is simply just a good hitter. Love how he uses the whole field all the time.

While they might not have recognized them just by appearance, I think most of the players knew who they were by name. If you are passionate enough about baseball to make it to the big leagues, you've probably learned a little history of those who came well before your time. Though while typing this I was reminded of the time Buck made Mychal Givens write a book report on Frank during spring training.

The consistency with which Adley has good ABs is impressive. Like who was the last Os player who consistently had good ABs. Markakis and Roberts in their primes??

No doubt.  Vavra is getting there.  Not a surprise that each is the son of a coach.

I wanna find the one guy with a bad Brooks story. He's had to have had a bad day sometime and been marginally short with somebody, right? Is it possible to be this consistently delightful? What a treasure.
