I do think if this game becomes a blowout either way(and any other game for that matter), I think they have to take out Rowe to "protect" him given the lack of depth at QB.
Agreed...and it would give whoever the backup is a chance to get live reps if/when they do need him. And you would think that knowing the situation, BC (and all future opponents) will try to take every opportunity to rough up (legally) Rowe in hopes that he has to leave the game. This puts even more stress on an already shaky OL.

Not buying this one as much. You're always trying to knock the QB out, the backup is always going to be worse than the starter. Just in this case, there's no one who is really qualified to be a back-up.Agreed...and it would give whoever the backup is a chance to get live reps if/when they do need him. To a degree you do always want to legally hit a QB hard....if not to knock him out of the game then to at least get in his head and make him jittery or hesitant. But with the Terps if you knock Rowe out they have to turn to guys who were not even recruited to play the position. Whether true or not remains to be seen, but conventional wisdom says that would be a much larger drop-off than usual when getting to the next guy on the depth-chart. Given that, some teams may try to push the envelop a bit in order to gain that edge.

It involves taking more chances now, maybe some slightly-later hits, hitting a bit harder. You could get some penalties, but if the opposing QB is suddenly a linebacker, that off-sets just about anything. Not buying this one as much. Could be a reality show like Bobby Knight's thing.Seriously, there has to be a dozen kids on campus who could make these short FGs and Xtra points. Hold open tryouts and find one of them, Edsall.
