That's a weak class of freshman candidates. The weakest I can remember. It stands in start contrast to just a few years ago, when there were so many "locks" for the hall, that many had to wait, just because it wasn't possible to vote them all in at one time.

Good news! I saw a dog today.

The beyond awful slate of first-timers (seriously, K-Rod arguably being the second-best candidate is only gonna help Billy Wagner) should help the middle of the road guys that need a boost, like Helton, Rolen, and Andruw.

2024 is rough, too. Beltre should be an easy first timer, but then you're looking at guys like Mauer, Utley, Holliday, Wright....all great players, but probably short?

Mauer is 1st ballot. Utley is also a HOFer

I don't disagree, but they don't have sexy resumes. The bar for catchers is stupid high (it took Gary Carter six years!), and Mauer's also gonna get punished for the move to 1B. I also fear Utley will get the Grich/Whitaker treatment, but hoping the younger/smarter electorate can evaluate him better.

Mauer may not be 1st ballot. Will dig deeper. Obviously a HOFer though

Beltran's resume feels like a pretty solid yes but I can't imagine he'll very easily get the Astros stink off of him

The stupid writers have no clue as to the game they are covering.

They really need a better system at selecting HOF.

IMO Alex Rodriguez and Manny Ramirez should be in.   Of the new class - I think C Belt deserves a HOF nod.

I’ve said it a million times but it’s BS that Ortiz gets the red carpet rolled out for him to the HOF and the rest of these guys aren’t in.

Guys like Clemens Arod Bonds and Manny were largely disliked by the media but because Ortiz was “Papi” with that stupid smile they love him and vote him in.

He cheated just like the others.

Ortiz first ballot vs Bagwell and Piazza not first ballot is the biggest thing for me. I guess you could twist things with Bonds and Clemens to tell yourself things were different. They weren't and they should both be in but Bagwell and Piazza both had to wait out nothing but suspicion. Ortiz actually failed the drug testing MLB did that was supposed to stay anonymous. He was also purely a DH. Yet we had all the excuses why Edgar waited forever and still cant find a way to get Dick Allen in

The whole establishment is a joke. Nothing against Mo Rivera but it’s a load of crap that he was the first unanimous first ballot player. He’s a closer. Cmon.

I do think things are slowly changing. Old guys are not gonna stay around forever and there are enough newer guys with a  different perspective
