This will be really interesting long term. Both of these guys could be really good players.
I suppose that's why you don't see trades like this very often. When you're dealing with two high ceiling guys, you don't want to trade someone that ends up being HUGE, and the guy you got back only being average or flaming out.
I saw a lot of people bashing the Mariners for this. If I'm the Mariners, I'm thinking.. We've had some of the best pitching in the AL of the last 3 years and it's gotten us nowhere. Clearly, giving up 3.5 runs per game does us no good if we're only scoring 2. Let's get some offense.
They probably believe in their ability to identify quality pitching as well as develop quality pitching internally. They should probably deal Felix for a king's ransom as well.
Overall, good trade for both, especially given needs. It'll be very interesting to see what Pineda does in NY.
