Thank the baseball gods for John Means and Cedric Mullins.

Thanks Bob, the 3 up are no doubt about it guys, maybe with Hays as an honorable mention.
The top 2 of the 3 down concern me. We already have a number of guys like Ruiz, Urias, Sisco, Stewart not hitting, and now we are adding Severino and Franco. This lineup makes it too easy on a pitcher.

A 1.080 OPS and a scoreless, hitless inning in relief doesn't get Pat Valaika listed in the Up catergory might be the biggest snub we'll see this year haha

Certainly considered it. If Severino was catching for the opposition he would've gotten a chance to get up there.

Is the tandem of Severino and Sisco the worst catching duo in baseball history? They can't hit. They can't field. They can't frame.

Yet back in the day, we had a pretty decent guy, Wieters, yet, some feel he was a bust and didnt deserve to be on the roster.
These days, the best we can do, is this duom.

It may be. I am not sure what is worst, the black hole at catching or second base.

Orioles catchers were 13th in offense last year. Same two guys, mostly. Struggling this year, but O's still aren't even last in the league offensively from the catcher spot (MIA). We are last in fWAR, so for whatever the defensive grading is worth (not much, IMO), overall they have us as the worst catching performance so far this season. Last year we were 25th in catching fWAR, so considering the decent offensive performance, seem like WAR really hates the O's defensive value from catching. Hard to argue against that based on eye test, but scale is always hard to pinpoint.
bWAR isn't quite as harsh on the O's catching defense grade. Orioles "only" 26th in the league in 2021, 14th in 2020.

Ive been of the opinion the WAR is not a metric that is friendly to the catcher.

I agree that it's not a great gauge of catching defense. I also don't like pitch framing stats, at least I really hated them the last time I focused on it several years ago. Maybe they've gotten better since, but I don't think the underlying logic is a sound theory.

Yeah I should have made it more clear I am talking about this season. They suck. Badly.

I feel like Means got too much of a write up.
Maybe just...
MOMENT.
or
<<mic drop>>
or
.
That last one is the one I'd go with.

He is cheap. It's close, but I think the catching is worse. The more I watch Severino, the more I understand why the Orioles were able to pick him up for nothing. He has some tools , but he's a below average defender who is lazy at times behind the plate. He disappears for long stretches offensively. I think it appears that you get more from Sisco defensively, but he's not a good defender. He hasn't hit in a couple of years and I doubt he'll put it together. Besides, these two are more exposed because they are obviously involved in every pitch.

Its not about building a contender, but how cheap can you compete.
The cheap narrative misses what is the most likely priority.
