The Terps will face 2-seed Alabama in the Round of 32 on Monday night at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, IN for a trip to the Sweet 16. The Crimson Tide won their first game against Iona on Saturday afternoon by a score of 68-55. They finished the season with a 25-6 (16-2) record and were crowned both SEC regular season and conference tournament champions.
KenPom currently ranks Alabama as the #7 team in the country, while Maryland comes in at #31.

It's going to take a very focused and scrappy effort, along with a little help of some cold shooting by Alabama, but all are possible and could lead to a big Maryland upset. If THIS Maryland team makes the Sweet 16, I think we'll all be shocked. But crazier things have happened in March. Hope some brackets are still alive!

The balance of Alabama compared to Uconn's reliance on Bouknight feels pretty notable to me. Bouknight was 51st in the country for shots percentage at 30.8 while Jaden Shackelford is at 24.6 percent which is all the way down at 480th in the country.

Alabama's defense coupled with MD's offensive lulls is a real issue... but the fact that Alabama plays with pace, is going to help MD's offense imo. MD will get some points in transition.
Alabama's 3 leading scorers are all guards... that also helps MD.
Herbert Jones is pretty solid, but MD's faced better bigs... he shouldn't completely overwhelm MD inside.
Maryland is Maryland. Even a 'down' Maryland team always has a chance vs. anyone.
Alabama is good, and they should win. But MD is certainly capable of beating them in a 1 game neutral court scenario.
Bama has 10 guys who average at-least 8.4 minutes. Terps have to avoid early foul trouble.
Hit shots, get to the line... avoid turning the ball over... play the game in 10 minute blocks, and keep extending the game as long you can.

I still hold my assertion that Alabama is the weakest of the 2 seeds, but they are still a good team and better on paper than the Terps. How we fare against their defense will be interesting.
Interestingly our path to the elite 8 is not that daunting if we can beat Bama. The winner plays the winner of UCLA/Abilene Christian. Now that I mentioned it, though, watch us beat Alabama then lose in a blowout to Abilene.
So your saying Turgeon and his good friend Howard could exchange pleasantries again on the sideline?
