Acquired on waivers (shocker) from SF. He replaced Eshelman on the 40.
I actually like this pickup. Chris Shaw.
He just turned 27 and probably more limited than Mountcastle, so he's more of a DH than LF or 1B.
Orioles lack much LHed power and Shaw could fill that type of a platoon or bench option for the big club.
Bigger guy (6'4", 220) that if you unlock some of the projection he had as a late 1st round pick (1-31) in 2015 then he could be a credible piece to something in the future.
.279/.340/.520 slash in the minors. No real success in SF, but he was always a poor fit there.
Less than a year service (0.060) and he has an option left so he can hang at AAA while we wait out Davis.
I saw something that said he was still rookie eligible in 2021 so I'm sort of surprised he's not updated into the Orioles top 30 on mlb.com (if that's true). Even at 27 years old I can't believe he has less projection than some other guys in there. Age is a big thing there, so maybe.
Anyway, may be nothing but he has as probably more opportunity to be interesting than anyone else they've acquired outside of the draft.
If you think things like this can make a difference, he's a north-east kid that's been stuck on the west coast.
