MASN / Melewski: http://www.masnsport...thy-season.html
Good piece from Melewski looking at Townsend.
We discussed Townsend with Baseball America's Jim Callis in October:
Baltimore Sports and Life: “The 3rd round pick the year prior was Frederick 1st baseman Tyler Townsend. The 23 year old had 38 xbh’s, and a .941 OPS in his 252 ab’s on the year. Despite the power shown, he had just 11 walks, and 64 k’s. Would the limited plate-discipline shown, prevent you from promoting him to AA Bowie to begin 2012? Where does he rank for you among 1st base prospects at the High Aball level?”
Callis: “Townsend is definitely interesting, but I want to see him at higher levels before I fully jump on the bandwagon. He’s already 23 and hasn’t been to Double-A yet, and I want to see how the power plays and how much contact he’s going to make against upper-level pitching. So far, so good, but he obviously has to hit a lot to make it at first base. The repeated injuries are a concern, too.”

Love the power. Love the fact that he realizes that plate discipline needs to improve.
But...I don't feel good about the chances of a 23 year old in A+ with a 64K/11BB ratio.

Well I hear Linda Ronstadt is looking for a guitar player.

Starting the year at Bowie, I'm interested to see how he does these first couple of months. He needs to stay in the lineup, produce, and show improvement with his plate discipline.

Bowie crushed today 13-3, Townsend 1-4 with his 2nd HR - a 3 run shot.

Townsend was 2 for 3 with a walk today. One of his two hits was his 3rd HR.

Have been bullish on both Mahoney and Townsend. Glad to see them both off to good starts.

Townsend was 2 for 3, with 2 walks last night.
Turns 24 in a couple of weeks.
9 for 24 (.375) to start the year, with 3 hr's, 9 rbi, 6 bb's, and 6 k's.

Townsend was 2 for 5, with his 4th hr, and a walk today. That was the positive.
The negative is that he had 3 errors, and now has 7 errors for the season at 1st?

On the DL since 4/30 with a hamstring injury. Have we seen any news about his return?

Had an .858 OPS with Bowie but was demoted to Frederick after coming off the DL. Batted .254/.338/.373 (.711) with 5 doubles, 3 HR, 18 RBI over 118 at bats.
