The Os have won 93 games. A month ago that looked like it would be enough. The Yankees are playing well. We've done all we could.

I mean we could finished tied for the 2nd best record in the American League and be the wildcard. It's bad luck. 93 or 94 wins will win you a division a good % of the time.

Nope, WC on Friday ALDS on Sat. So you have Hammel and Chen lined up for games 1 and 2 of the ALDS, but my problem is that Gonzalez and Tillman have been your best 2 pitchers for a month, and you won't throw them in the elimination game or until game 2/3 of the DS at earliest.

I cannot believe people are complaining about how the rotation has been planned out. I guess people gotta complain about something...

Touche'

OTOH, the people I'm complaining about haven't won 93 games already :-)

If now was then, I fully expect people on a message board would complain about starting McNally* instead of Palmer...

* during the years they were both pitching, McNally was the better bet...

But you will end up throwing them in games 161 and 162 in order to get the AL East title.

The Yankees had a great comeback last night, but if they didn't, we'd have Tillman on the mound where if we win, we get into the tiebreaker, or maybe even win outright if the Yanks lose again.

I really don't think that there was ever a point where the team should have said "lets just settle for the WC". I still don't think they should be saying that. Unless the Yankees get up to a huge lead like Monday night again, we should play tonight's game like it's a must win (or very close to it). Gives us a chance at the tiebreaker and at worst would lock us into a home game Friday night against either Tex or Oak having to fly cross-country.

I think the risk of the downside (having to go with Saunders to start the WC game, possibly even on the road) is worth the reward of the upside (winning the AL East and not having to fight it out in the WC game, and getting an ALDS series against the weakest team left instead of NYY, Oak, or Tex).
