Maryland finally announced the nonconference schedule today.

 

11/25 (Next Wednesday) - Old Dominion

11/27 - Navy

11/29 - Mount St. Mary's

12/1 - Monmouth

12/4 - George Mason

12/9 - @ Clemson (ACC/B1G Challenge)

12/22 - La Salle

 

So sad there won't be fans - I mean, I'd just give an arm and a leg to be able to see Old Dominion and Monmouth live and in person!

What's sadder? The quality of opponents on that schedule, or the likelihood that couple of those games are going to end up being actual nail-biters?

Penn State's OOC schedule is much better and scheduling from the same geography as Maryland

 

VCU and Seton Hall would both improve Maryland's schedule

Smith also became the seventh Maryland player drafted under head coach Mark Turgeon, joining Len (2013), Diamond Stone (2016), Jake Layman (2016), Kevin Huerter (2018), Justin Jackson (2018) and Bruno Fernando (2019).

 

Feel like this is a glass half full/empty situation where you can either look at this as Turge is the kind of recruiter able to identify NBA talent pretty consistently or the kind of coach who should be doing better with that much NBA talent

He's pretty much always been both.

This seems right.  As teams get better during the season, Maryland seems to stay about the same.

The game against Monmouth on 12/1 has been cancelled after the Hawks paused all team activities for the next two weeks due to a positive COVID-19 test result.

Because the NCAA is not counting this season against players' eligibility, he'll still have four years of eligibility beginning this season. So it's essentially a freebie.
