Well we can all hope invading Iraq is not Trump’s solution to the Coronavirus.

We can hope he doesn't try to use Covid-19 as a reason to cancel the Nov election... the Repubs in Congress won't lift a finger to stop him doing that, because they expect to get hammered then too...

Just watch what happens:  The Dem's will try to do vote-by-mail... and the Repubs will kill that...

Trump just said yet again that "nobody could have predicted this"... even though we KNOW that he was briefed to expect a potential pandemic back in January...

Also, he learned a new word... "implementing"... he says he's implementing... but he doesn't say what he's implementing...

I would be deeply disappointed if that happens too. If Trump and the GOP believe they are making progress in bringing minorities under their tent they shouldn’t be afraid of a mail in ballot.

They know better.  (Maybe Trump doesn't but his polling people who pay attention to reality do... and the Repubs in Congress do too...)

Our for profit hospitals in the US bill about $3.14 trillion in revenue per year and are asking for a $100 billion dollar stimulus package. God bless our doctors and nurses right now. But F the greedy overlords upset about the lost revenue from the lack of elective surgeries. You can't make this up. I hope people don't fall for this. They act like they won't be billing all the covid-19 victims full bill. https://www.cnn.com/...kage/index.html

My mom was the head of the ER for Bon Secours hospital for years. If you don’t know where that is, it’s where HBO did the show The Corner.

She literally put her life at risk just driving to work.

Anyway, when she left there, they essentially fired her and anyone in the hospital with experience because they made good money.

What did they replace them with? Inexperienced people just to save money.

Now think about that for a moment. This “Christian” system, one worth billions, decided that a hospital on one of the worst areas in the country, should have cheaper, inexperienced people running things.

My mom worked within their system for over 30 years I believe...but they tossed her aside to save a few bucks, despite the fact that she had that ER running like a well oiled machine.

It actually was the best thing for her because of the stress. Working 60-70 hours a week and while her salary was good, it wasn’t good enough in hindsight.

I don’t know about you but when I’m at a hospital, when you could be in a situation where literally your life could be in their hands, I want to know experienced and good people are the ones taking care of me.

But greed overcomes that.

That's terrible but not at all surprising. Health care shouldn't be for profit.

What’s funny is the Bon Secour health system advertises themselves as a “not for profit” organization.

Just like college athletics departments are "not for profit." When a few people at the top make millions in salary and bonuses, you can somehow get away with that.

Now some hospitals are threatening to close without that $100B stimulus package. Meanwhile, hospitals on average charge around $15 per tylenol pill (averaging $345 for your average stay on Tylenol alone). Patients pay $53 per non-sterile pair of gloves (average of $5,141 for their stay).  You know that cute little plastic cup? That's $10 per cup (averaging $440 for your stay).  Alcohol swabs are $23 for an average of $322 during your stay.

So it's okay for hospitals to price gouge us, and they've been doing it for decades - but when it happens to them - they ask Congress to sneak them $100B into the stimulus bill.

Pure evil.

In defense of hospitals, it’s not like they are going to Costco, buying large quantities of Tylenol for $10 and charging 15 a pill.

What they get charged is astronomical too.

Your overall point is correct but the costs hospitals have are insane.

Right, they are gouging because they have to, because of litigation, insurance...  system flawed throughout.

They're all collectively in cahoots. That's why the whole system needs radical change. It's absurd and unethical.

Exactly right.

You can’t ignore all facets of everything. Everything is connected.

It’s like when you buy a brand new house (or brand new anything really).

Your costs are much higher because you are getting it before it’s ever used but as soon as you buy it, all of those costs go away and you are stuck with a product worth far less than you paid.

All the hands that were in it before you ever bought are getting wealthy by charging you way more than the product is worth.

You complain about it to the final person you buy it from but the reality is that person is just trying to make a profit off of the gouging that ensued before them.

The way it’s done in health care is no different than any other field.

Your industry is also corrupt as hell.

All of them are.

Credit Unions are hardly corrupt. But I hear you, a lot of corruption out there, no doubt. But let's just accept it and keep our heads in the sand and keep electing people who are bought and paid for and will never make the necessary changes. Greed HAS to be regulated, period.

1) The banking industry is corrupt.
2) It doesn’t matter who you elect, it’s always going to be corrupt.

I don’t get why people can’t grasp this.

Look, in ANY profession, anyone who is very wealthy and/or in a position of power for there by doing a lot of shady, underhanded things.

Some of may seem minor and some of it is major but you would be hard pressed to find a CEO, politician, etc...who hasn’t done things in their profession that could/would put them in prison.

It’s just reality.

And btw, these places deserve to make money. You have this thing against people being wealthy, which is just absurd.

There is nothing wrong with it.

Now, we agree that you don’t have to gouge the hell out of people.

I mean, the jewelry business is filled with that. When someone comes to me, I offer them the same or better quality product for less money than they are paying anywhere else.

However, if someone doesn’t want to do research and they want to go somewhere and get raped on something, that’s their fault. That’s their choice. It doesn’t mean that I’m not still making money, I’m just not shoving it up your ass like so many other places do.

You can’t regulate greed.

Yes you can, and by doing nothing, we're going to end up with socialism in another generation or two as younger people are exponentially more in line with that vision. It's not absurd to not want a single family owning over $200 billion in wealth.

That family worth that probably has employed tens of thousands of people..people who may otherwise not have a job.

And once the younger generation starts to make money, they will see how stupid socialism is but sure, I agree it’s a concern.

Oh the favorite Republican/greed apologist talking point. Such BS. The same ones who employee people until the market turns even a little, then lays everyone off, and gets a socialist bailout. The hypocrisy is insane.

But I'm done with this, back to the topic. I'll never change your mind.
