It turns out that Thorne was holding out because of contract dispute. It's been resolved, and he's expected to have a Palmer-type role for the rest of the season.
Great news!

Thorne would be a huge upgrade over Garceau. But I don't really see where he fits in as a one-inning a night call-in guest like Palmer has done a little bit. You don't do that to bring in extra play-by-play guys.
As long as we continue getting tons of McDonald I'm happy. He's so great.
I guess it is a matter of taste, and what you want in the booth. I will take Scott over Gary all day and I also prefer Hunter too him.
Thorne and names are the same as Sott and names. They both butcher them. I don't like the constant joking around, and I do not like Oriole announcers losing their nut, when someone on the Red Sox does something well.

I really don't understand the Red Sox argument, like can you watch this clip and honestly tell me you think he's a Red Sox fan or favors them? https://www.youtube....h?v=rAY9l0qafIQ

I think there are many moments where he has gone nuts when something happens good for the Red Sox. The Betts home run barage triggered some of them.
I am an admitted homer, so I am sure that is part of it.
I have enjoyed the games more with out Thorne this year.
I prefer Scott, prefer Hunter, and I could get behind Kevin Brown becoming the main guy.
I am just not a fan of Thorne.

I think both Brown and Arnold are better on TV. I don't listen too much radio, and seemingly everytime I do, it is for an away game. I give everyone a pass trying to do a game broadcasting off a monitor.

Anything interesting beyond the paywall? Angelos family to blame?
This part kind of answers your question.
Once news broke in August that Thorne had signed a deal, the expectations — even within the organization — were that he’d be back on the air soon. And then, crickets.
That gives credence to two theories:
One, that the deal was simply a way for the Orioles to avoid any potential litigation. The club is run by lawyers, including John Angelos, who is the supreme ruler in the organization when it comes to all things MASN and broadcasting. Thorne, before becoming a full-time broadcaster, was an attorney. The organization announced he was employed when he didn’t have a contract. So, legally speaking, this could have gotten ugly. Instead, the sides agreed to a deal. But maybe it was never the Orioles’ intention of using Thorne after the contract was signed. And that was never revealed to him.
Two, maybe John Angelos just hasn’t gotten around to informing everyone what the plan is for Thorne. This organization isn’t exactly known for its stellar interdepartmental communications.
Regardless, this appears to be a simple situation that has turned into a mess. And that’s disturbing because that’s been an Orioles’ business strategy over the years:
“Nothing can be simple in Birdland.”

She's been a complete bore everytime I've seen or heard her do anything on MASN
Brown is coming around. But Melanie sounds like listening to NPR.

She does not have a flow to her calls. It feels like she sees the play then figures out what to say, and is not very descriptive.

She deserved time but I'll just say it. Why did she get this job?
