It's not that bad of a move for the Texans if its known that Hopkins wants a new deal.  He just locked up the third year of a six year deal and all of the guaranteed money was 2017-2019.  He is now locked at 12.5m per and change the next three years, wants to surpass Cooper's contract that should be north of 20m per season.

So let's say he wants 22m per season.  You can only have 6-7 top contracts in this marketplace when your QB is about to reset the dynamics of the overall team cap covering 20-25% of it.

They get a dual option RB out of the deal and 2nd round pick.  They have two more WRs with talent and another one that could not get on the field, but showed flashes when on it.  They have a chance to add a cheap WR in the draft and restock around what might be a tight cap shortly.

It's a horrible trade for Houston when you consider what Minnesota got for Stefon Diggs. Buffalo gave up an emir's ransom to get him, and Diggs doesn't have Hopkins' pedigree.

The Ringer: Lessons From a Frenzied Week in NFL Free Agency

Unless you light the world on fire with your rookie contract, I believe the secondary QB market might start to be the next wave of how teams operate analytically.  If they spend half the cost of the top tier, they can fortify their other holes and make a competitive team.  Technically, we already saw that with Nick Foles.  It will be interesting to see if Mariota or Winston can take that next step with their new team in that mold.

Running back has always seen that second contract decline, but clubs never realized the benefits of rode hard and put up wet, move on to fresh legs. I believe the Ravens started to learn their lesson with Ray Rice, as that second contract started to see a players ability slip.  If he had not gotten into a physical altercation with his wife that led to his football career basically over, Ray Rice may not have just slipped, but fell of a football cliff with his abilities.

The Ravens up there in rarified air.

Nice to see, but it will be a "show me", situation come September.

September and the rest of the fall is close to irrelevant, IMO.  I guess it'll be important to see if they can get that lone bye now.  But given the way the past two Januaries have gone, the big conversation will be about how the Ravens and Lamar perform in their next playoff game.  That's going to be a big monkey to get off the back.

They need to expand the roster to 60. How hard is that to get done?
<p>I am pretty sure Shack is thinking of PBR.

My point is September is where it starts.  I don;t see it as a big monkey though, last years loss was the one that bothered me.  We lost to a lesser team.

IMO the year before, the Chargers were the better team.
