Social media is the worst invention this world has ever seen.

Only if you take it seriously.

Also, this board could easily be described as social media...SG :-)

There is baseball, and occasionally there are other things of note

"Now OPS sucks.  Got it."

"Making his own olive brine is peak Mackus."

"I'm too hungover to watch a loss." - McNulty

I don't particularly enjoy it, but it's not social media which sucks....  people suck.  All social media does is give you reminders of who people really are.

True...I guess I look at them differently.

When I talk about social media, I think of twitter, FB, snapchat, etc...I look at this differently.

But the people ARE social media...social media is a platform for the fucking shitbags and they take advantage of it in so many different ways.

Social media is just a tool.  It's not the tool which causes people to be horrible.  You just see the people being themselves, and you get inundated with things / commentary from people you normally wouldn't see.

Thus why it blows

It is indeed social media, just a different form of it than Facebook, Twitter, and the Gram.

This is mostly true imo.

I guess ignorance is bliss, so that's part of the problem with social media.

Maybe if you are dumb enough and say LeBron is better than Jordan, there is some support there in terms of stats but those are few and far between.

Btw, this isn't a dumb opinion. It's a reasonable position. I'm not there, at least not yet, but it's close. Kareem is also in the mix, but obviously won't be improving his resume.

Btw, if one hates social media, there's a really easy solution for them. Still a societal issue of course.

There are several easy solutions...

1) Obviously you can delete your accounts...

2) You can mute / unfollow people...  my FB profile is full of people where I never see their posts, because I don't follow them.

3) You can choose to not engage.  You don't have to react to everything which triggers you.

Harder when you have your own businesses though.

Still, I just don’t engage in most things and have blocked a lot of people.

But the stories you hear about are fucked up..you are right there..societal issues for sure.

You know what social media really opens your eyes to..hate.

You always know it’s there but for fuck sakes, the stuff that people to say to each other is disgusting. The stuff I always go back to are things you read and hear when some 18 y/o kid decides what college he is going to. That’s truly awful stuff there.

Not even a Star Trek fan and I agree.

In five years Netflix will either: 1. Cease to exist, 2. Be a shell of its current self.

I don’t know. They throw a lot of stuff against the wall, and enough of it sticks where they add $2 to the subscription price every year and not many people complain. A lot has been made about Friends and The Office leaving Netflix. They’ll add something else, and those shows are on cable syndication at nearly anytime of day.

I will say there will be 10 new Adam Sandler movies with the same plot structure as 30 of his other movies on Netflix in the next five years though.

I don’t think they will cease to exist but people are taking from them and that could certainly hurt them.

Netflix, IMO, is as relevant as HBO. HBO isn’t going anywhere.

Yeah but HBO owns all their content. The more that other companies start streaming services and take back their programming, that'll hurt Netflix.

I also think Netflix has  sunk A LOT of money into original programming, which is great, but it's unclear how much they're making. I think that could bite them eventually.

Still, there's alot of good original content on Netflix. I hope they can keep it up but I wonder if they'll be able to.
