Based on his fWAR, that wouldn't be bad at all. rWAR is a different story, though.

This is a guy who last year had to take a 1/$11M deal. He goes out and has a worse year than the year before, in terms of innings, ERA, ERA+, and WAR (BB-ref), and then he gets a 4/$52M deal?

Worked out well for him...Wanted a long term deal last winter and no one would give it to him, so he signed the one year deal in hopes of getting a bigger contract this year.Terrible contract, IMO.

I thought it was a poor move but it ended up working out great for him.

The deal for the AL championship series MVP, announced Tuesday, calls for him to get on a scale on six occasions to be chosen by the team. He'll receive $100,000 each time he makes weight, according to details obtained by The Associated Press. The first three times, he must be 230 pounds or less, and the second three, 235 pounds or less.
