You realize his team won 100+ games and the World Series last year.  And they are 5 games up in their division with the 2nd best record in the sport this year.  Of their top 20 players by WAR only 3 (Dallas Keuchel, Charlie Morton, Evan Gattis) are not under control after this year.

Guy seems to be doing something right.

Yeah he is good, but can he repeat when the window is wide open?  You do realize if the Dodgers bullpen had not imploded The Astros lose the WS.  His bullpen closer gagged.  They won in spite of his refusal to upgrade the back of the pen.  Hanging your hat on Giles was not smart.  He had a brilliant manager that covered his arse.  Guess he banking on Hinch to bail him out again. IMO, he just isn't learning from a past mistake.

Yankees just acquired Happ for McKinney and Drury. Much rather have what we got than that.

Happ's not as good as Britton though.

Right now, he’s better than Britton and throws a lot more innings.

Not having the greatest year but he's a pretty solid SP.

He has good peripherals, especially the K rate that’s over 10. Walk rate is below 3..FIP and xFIp are all way better than his ERA (which isn’t terrible either). He’s giving up a good amount of homers and that doesn’t figure to slow down in NY.

I would expect that to get more than Britton, despite the importance of the pens.

Well yeah, because he's a starter.

Don't agree that Happ is better than Britton. Are you basing that off him being a starter? Does that mean you'd take Happ over Mariano Rivera?

Britton isn’t Mariano Rivera. He’s not the same guy he was 2+ years ago. He can still be very effective for them in high leverage situations but there is a lot of risk involved as well. I would say Happ is the safer bet to perform how they expect but Britton clearly has more upside.

I’m a little surprised how little Toronto got. Makes me think we’re not moving Gausman. At least not until the offseason.

I didn’t say Britton was Rivera, I’m just trying to figure out what he’s basing his concluding Happ > Britton on.

I don’t think Toronto did that poorly. Happ just isn’t that good and he’s a rental.

Yeah he's kind of a moron, but he did bite the bullet and got Verlander last year and it paid off big. But when you have a chance to have kind of a superteam dynasty right here right now, how do you not take that opportunity? Who cares about 5 years from now if you can rack up 2 or 3 rings now?

They will move Morton to the 2-3 inning closer role.

Certainly think Britton could have made sense for them, but their playoff options aren't Giles or nothing.

Happ is having a good year..his peripherals are very good.

Britton has had a few decent weeks.

So yes, it surprises me that we got more for Britton than Happ. That 2016 season really helped us.

The Yankees may have overpaid a bit in this deal, but it's not as if Toronto dressed them down and then sold their clothes at auction. Brandon Drury was nothing more than an insurance policy for them. He was coveted more by most other teams than he was by the Yankees.

I guess I'm not feeling Drury. Maybe if he was a good second baseman but that doesn't appear to be the case. He just looks very mediocre. Probably a utility player or a below average starter.  Hes the main piece for Happ, a very solid SP? Yuck. What am I missing?

Not sure about that Morton move. He has been one of the their best starters 11-2, 2.89 ERA. 1.15 WHIP.  Hector Rondon has taken over the closer role as Giles is in AAA because he sucked again.  Giles may not even be part of the late inning mix for the post season.

BTW, that's the same Rondon that wasn't good enough for the Cubs as their closer in 2016 so Epstein got Chapman at the deadline. And won the WS.  Hmmmm.

So yeah Hinch could very well have to move Morton in their out of desperation. Just like last year.

Cashman is crushing it.  He usually gets his guy.  Double whammy on the Britton deal.  Helps his team at the same he hurts the Astros. I don't believe for one minute the Astros didn't want Britton.  They just didn't like the price tag.  Good luck with Rondon as your closer and your ex closer Meltdown Giles in AAA .  Ludnow should ask Epstein what he thought of Rondon as a closer in 2016 when the Cubs won the WS.  Oh yeah, Epstein traded for Chapman at the deadline.

That Giles has a lot of Brad Brach in him.

Houston may still end up with someone. Maybe they trade better prospects and get Iglesias, who has several years of control left.

Makes sense.  Ludnow is too good to not make a move for the back end this year.  I can see why he would balk at a high rental price if he can get someone good with a couple years of control. Marlins have some good pen arms as well with control.
