“We have a shot at a wild card right now. But it is not a probability that we're going to win a wild card.” -2022 Trade Deadline
"It's liftoff from here" - after selling on 2022

"I think it's really hard to sit there and chart a course and say, 'We're likely to win the division.'" - Winter Meetings 2022

Pretty high earned run rates though.

I just can't get onboard the Drew Rom hype train with a near 4 ERA in AA, and barely a 9 K/9 ratio. Just feels like all the other "barely" pitching prospects we've got.
What do you mean?

He’s 21 and pitching well in AA, that’s not very common. Grayson is a freak of nature.
I’m not sure there is a Drew Rom hype train, he’s in the same mold as the Zac Lowther’s and Alex Wells of the world, but he’s a few years younger than they were at each level.
I see a few of the Minor League O's guys on social media hyping him up. That he's 21 makes me feel better about it. Lowther/Wells makes more sense, I just hear people mention his name a lot as if he's upper echelon.

Casey Mize had a 3.20 ERA and under 9 K/9 in AA at age 22 a few years back. He was around a top 20 prospect.
Dustin May had a 3.74 ERA and between 9-10 K/9 in AA at age 21. He was around a top 20 prospect.
No one is calling Rom a top 20 prospect, but his #s are good for his age IMO. Age matters so much with evaluating these guys. But yeah it would be better if he could add some velocity. Some can, some can't.

Interested to see how he does against better hitters. Issue with him has been that he can get roughed up. Ks and BBs are good, but a little on the high side for HR and H allowed. My amateur take from the statline would be to wonder if his stuff is just average and he really needs to be in a groove with the command to pitch well. May be some "crafty lefty" bias creeping in there.

4.2 IP 1 R 9K 4 BB in his AAA debut.
Both the K and BB were season highs (also 4 BB in his final AA start).
