While Verlander certainly is a stud, the Tigers are only 14-10 in games he's started. Of course that's due to the offense struggling, not Verlander, the team has scored only 22 runs in the 10 Verlander starts which they lost. Hunter still will have to do a very good job for the O's to get a win tonight, but I do think we've got a decent shot of winning a low scoring contest here.

Entering this series, Baltimore and Tampa Bay are the two AL Wild Cards, with equal 64-54 records. Detroit is a game behind the O's.

Verlander is 7-0 with a 2.71 ERA over 10 career starts against the Orioles.

This should be fun..

1. Which of these series do you think is the most interesting?

Nick J. Faleris (@NickJFaleris), Camden Depot: "I have to say Baltimore-Detroit, right? Fortunately, that biased answer has the added benefit of (arguably) being true. The series will feature each team's top starter (Justin Verlander and Wei-Yin Chen), one of the top bats in baseball (Miguel Cabrera), one of the more exciting rookies in baseball (Manny Machado), and one of the AL's biggest breakout players (Adam Jones). As an intriguing backdrop, the series will match a preseason favorite (Detroit) against perhaps the biggest Cinderella story of the summer (Baltimore)."

Big win tonight. Move back to 10 over .500, a game ahead of Detroit, and a chance to win the series vs. the Tigers tomorrow.

Even if you lose this series, winning tonight was close to a necessity.

Agreed. This just felt like a "big" game. After getting to Verlander and losing anyway, i felt like a potential losing streak could have been right around the corner. Huge performance all around tonight.

Chen has a good shot tomorrow, though Fister's been really good of late.
