I'd have to give the award to Ventura. Melvin and Buck have managed before. What Ventura has done as manager, a rookie manager, is rather impressive.
What I would like to know is how much of a difference there is between pitching in the major league compared to pitching overseas. If there is a great difference in the style of the pitchers and the batters, then I think it is okay that people like Darvish and Chen are up for consideration. If not, then I don't think they or any future imports should be up for ROY consideration. Doesn't matter this year anyway since Trout is going to win it.

I think it's difficult to consider Ichiro, Yu Darvish, Wei-Yin Chen "rookies" even if they technically are. To me a rookie is someone who hasn't really established themselves against tougher competition (or a had a chance to).

He inherited a team that finished below three games under-.500 once in this century, and has them on the same pace as White Sox teams two and four years ago. The Orioles have to play .341 baseball over the rest of the season to NOT finish with a .500-or-better record for the first time in fifteen years--over a full season only the 1988 Orioles played worse, to give you some scale. As long as this team wins at least 35% of their remaining games Buck has the best argument of any AL manager.
