Double header today!
At noon eastern the senior team face Northern Ireland then at 6 eastern the U23 face off against Honduras in a critical Olympic qualifier. Critical because its a must win semifinal. There are two spots to the Olympics so both semi final winners are in. The actual final is Wednesday but its more for bragging rights. Today is THE match.

Senior team wins 2-1. Fairly even match although we did create numerous solid chances the last 25 minutes but just not quite able to finish. Field was pretty wet and by the end of the match torn up.
But the more important one is next. Need to get these guys back to the Olympics!

Not a good effort by the U23s. But there is a small upside. But you'll have to read my next writeup to get that.

We looked very vulnerable on the counterattack, very unimpressed by our CBs.

Yes but to be fair, we played the 3 CB system without our best CB in Brooks. But more importantly stopping the counter is much more on the dmid. Kelly Acosta had some struggles yesterday.

Pretty good summation by Jeff. But with one big miss IMO. Is there room for Aaronson? Not even a question. He for sure slots into the 23. Ok so who is the odd man out then?
I can tell you the position but the name, at this point would be a guess since its too early. But there is no way Berhalter is taking Sargent, Weah, Morris, Dike, and Zardes. Not a chance he is taking 5 forwards.

Decent friendly vs the Swiss losing 2-1. First half the US was very good and were the better side. Second half not so much. And as is typical in friendlies, the second half wholesale subs really made a mess of things.
Now some real matches for a chance. Thursday in Denver against Honduras in the CONCACAF Nations League semi-final then hopefully on to the final. More to come on this mid week.

Hadn't seen that article but probably no big deal. Pretty good chance he wasn't going to be on the Gold Cup roster anyway. Berhalter's plan of attack has been to use his A team guys for the Nations League and Swiss and CR friendlies then the B team for the Gold Cup. And also any player that gets transferred to a new team is probably excused from the Gold Cup to give them more time to work earning their role with their new team (remains to be seen who fits that window but one guy to keep an eye on is Dike).
