Steve M:
Orioles announce they have agreed to terms with top draft pick, HS lefty DL Hall.
Good news. He is at the game tonight. He looks like he is 12, but he is now a rich kid.

And for those that said Angelos doesn't meddle like he used to. Conlon failed his physical today. Could have signed him, let whatever happen and recover and had a good shot at having a good prospect in a couple years. Kinda like drafting him in HS, letting him go to college and still owning him when he was done there.
But no...not only did they not offer something to sign him and let him recover (don't completely fault them there, cause good chance he could go to A&M and get drafted much higher after he recovers and pitches a year or two) BUT they don't even offer 40% of the slot value so they get the draft choice back. That worried that a "damaged" player will eat up, what $130k???? vs 6 years of control. HOW STUPID ARE THEY???!!!!
Like I said, I don't blame Jack for not signing that offer, but what are the chances that between the draft and now something so severe popped up his entire career is at risk? Not great. Even if it's TJ surgery, 2 years he's back pitching, one more year to knock the rust off and get experience and it's the same as if he went to college and they still got to keep him.
So stupid to not get that pick.

And his response:
How can you possibly know anything about this, how long he'll be out and when he can pitch? Rob, please.

For those looking for evidence that the Orioles are a poorly run organization, the Bishop saga seems to be good fodder. Sounds like they had an agreement but the O's submitted paperwork 5 minutes past the deadline, and MLB basically decided the kid shouldn't be punished for the Orioles' incompetence.

Here's Rosenthal on the Bishop signing. Sounds like they agreed on a contract two days before the deadline, and he passed his O's physical the next day. And then for some reason (Angelos?), the O's were late with the paperwork.
Keith Law said that Bishop was pitching great in the Cape Cod league - he only fell to the 26th round because of an oblique injury - so this is good news.

Glad he is in the organization but what a clusterF this organization is. Can't even get paperwork in on time?

They lost the fax number.
Seriously, I am surprised MLB did not use the mess, to screw with the Oriole again.
Sounds like they cared more about doing the right thing for the kid, as opposed to poking Angelos again.
Good for them.
