I thought he was looking back close to his 2021 self before injuries derailed his season. Baseball savant doesn't look very promising. Obviously the CF job is his in 2024.

Hoping the hideous finish to the season was not being right after the second muscle pull. He was what I expect him to be prior to that.

April/May were good months, got hurt in early June, came back and did well in July before reinjuring a second time.

He had a .774 OPS pre ASB. I'll take that with his defense, even with the noodle for an arm.

That's why Cedric needs to stay on the O's for the foreseable future as long as he can hit even a little. We simply don't have anybody to put in CF who can do that.

If he's healthy he's leading off every night. Not only is he the best we have but he's one of the best in the game when you combine what he can do offensively and defensively at his best.

Eh, he can be healthy and still be a < .310 OBP guy. He can still be a valuable member of the team that starts almost every day, but I don't want him leading off every night in that case. 

 

I'm not saying he's definitely a .310 OBP guy, but that's what he's shown for 2+ years. Last year I kind of give a pass, but 2022 was healthy I think and wasn't much better than that.

I think Holliday eventually the leadoff guy with his big OBP skills, Adley 2 and Gunnar 3.

I do like Cedric at top when he's going well, no issue with a little reshuffle for now.

If by foreseeable future you mean 2024 and 2025, I agree 100%.

Hes not peak a Kiermaier defender but was looking at Kiermaier yesterday. Think in numerous ways thats who Ced is now. Dont expect good offensive production. BA is gonna be low for sure. Can he still steal enough bases and slug enough to give you net positive offense.

.335 OPS over the last 30 days. He's damn near unplayable at this point as anything more than a defensive replacement/ pinch runner. Only a .277 OPS last 15 days.

Yeah gotta hope that monumental base running gaffe yesterday was a huge outlier. Man I am still not happy with him even after a good nights sleep. The problem is can the O's afford to carry him just for outfield D and base running when they are in such dire need of some offensive production?

He had a big dip like this like the year before his 30/30 season too, where they sent him back down for a bit. I've been a big Ced fan for years, but that decline with the bat, you gotta figure that out. Especially when you've got guys in the minors absolutely tearing the cover off the ball.

Only problem is there's really no one else capable of handling CF except Cowser, but then you're relying Hays for LF because I don't think Kjerstad is the solution for LF in OPACY.

Yup.  Really need one of Ced or Hays to hit like a big leaguer.  All of the other OF depth is really RF/1B/DH depth.  At least until/unless Beavers levels up.  He's having a very nice season but don't think he's on track to make an impact down the stretch.
