Will be interesting to see who Ohio State gets to replace him.  Should be a pretty attractive job.

If OSU wanted him out, you could have gotten Archie Miller.

Gene Smith mentioned lack of recruiting recently (which is true) which leads me to believe this wasn't solely Matta's decision.

 

Now obviously Matta has health issues which could be another (big) reason, but that press conference sure seemed like he didn't want to stop coaching right now.

Insider says OSU wish list includes: Brad Stevens, Tony Bennett, Jay Wright, Sean Miller & Billy Donovan.

If the timing weren't so weird, Bennett and Miller might seem obtainable.  OSU probably can offer loads more money than UVA or Arizona.  Doubt either guy jumps, but I think they'd at least listen to the offer.

I'm not sure why Bennett would be such a reach to steal. It's UVA

Can't see Miller leaving...Arizona is a top 3 team entering this season.

 

Bennett OTOH could definitely go.  Not sure he will recruit like OSU wants because of his style of play though.  He will win but will that be good enough?

They fight the same thing the other big football schools do.

 

But yes, i would agree that they should be a tourney team that is a top 7 seed most years...and have years where every once in a while, they have the ability to be a final 4 team.

I think it's a top 3 job in the conference.

 

But like everyone has said, the timing absolutely sucks (unless they of course have a verbal/hush-hush agreement with a coach already).

You could make a case that it could be Billy Donovan, I just don't see it happening IMO.
