Yahoo!: Is Mel Tucker worth $95M to Michigan State? The Spartans have no choice but to find out
If he accepts the offer (and he'd be crazy not to) the AAV of his salary would trail only Nick Saban. This for a coach whose career record currently stands at 16-13.
I get it though. Someone is going to contact him about their opening. He's in good position to have a 10-win season, maybe a New Year's Six bowl, and if they pull an upset this weekend maybe much more. That's pretty good by Michigan State standards. If you are MSU, do you just let the guy go without ever trying to keep him, and hope for the best with his replacement?
I guess it helps a lot that two donors are footing most of the bill. Of course if this is just a lightning-in-a-bottle season for him, that would be a lot of cash to burn for not many wins....not to mention how much they'd have to eat if they let him go before the 10 years is up.

I'm not sure what the allure for him would be. Though in terms of culture and personality, he'd be as good a fit for Miami as anyone. Probably the best they could hope to get too, if he's actually interested.

As had been rumored for several days, Arizona DC (and onetime MD DC) Don Brown will be the new head coach at UMass. It's his second stint as HC for the Minutemen.

How silly does the Silly Season get? One well-known way rumors get started is by tracking known aircraft tail numbers on flight-tracker sites. It would appear today that a plane known to be used by Florida flew to Lafayette, LA....hence, the Billy Napier rumors have begun.

James Franklin parlayed all the chatter of him leaving PSU for USC perfectly. Got himself a 10-year extension. Not sure the exact overall value yet, but saw it contains buyouts of $12m if he leaves after this season, and $8m if he leaves after next season.
UPDATE: Seeing he'll get $80M guaranteed.

$175 million worth of coaching on the sidelines in East Lansing this weekend.

You know who's about to get a big raise? Ryan Day. He's now making substantially less ($6.6M) than the coach at Penn State and, reportedly soon, Michigan State.

Sources are saying Oregon State's Jonathan Smith is getting a well-earned extension. Washington probably would have come after him if OSU didn't do something.

Washington State is expected to remove the interim label from HC Jake Dickert. He should do a testimonial on the many benefits of getting vaccinated.

Florida seems to have zeroed in on Billy Napier. Deal could be done this week.

Today is typically Black Sunday on the coaching carousel, but so many firings took place prior to today that it's pretty quiet. I think the only position of note I would keep an eye on is Miami, but they still have to fill their vacant AD position.
Of course there still will be HC jobs that come open as other positions higher on the totem pole are filled.
Also, It might still be Black Sunday for coordinators and assistants. Colorado and Georgia Tech let go of nearly half their staffs this morning.

...and Oklahoma is reportedly targeting Kliff Kingsbury as his replacement. So that's something.
